As a longtime gamer and comic book enthusiast with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming Black Canary: Best of the Best series is shaping up to be an absolute knockout! The prospect of Dinah squaring off against Lady Shiva in a battle for the title of the DC Universe’s greatest hand-to-hand fighter has me on the edge of my seat.

In Black Canary: Best of the Best, a new series written by Tom King and illustrated by Ryan Sook, readers will gain a deeper appreciation for why many steer clear of provoking Black Canary. This highly anticipated series from DC Comics pits Black Canary against Lady Shiva in a fierce battle to determine who is the ultimate hand-to-hand combatant in the DC Universe. You can preview the first issue in the gallery below. With few rivals, Black Canary and Lady Shiva represent two of the most formidable fighters, ready to settle their dispute once and for all.

The fight kicks off as the announcer introduces the scene: Canary in one corner, Shiva in another. As the bell tolls, Shiva gets straight to work, landing a hard punch on Canary’s face and then a swift, painful kick to her ribs. This isn’t exactly a gentle start; rather, it’s more like the beginning of a long race than a quick dash.

In this instance, we catch a glimpse of another skirmish, unlike the one where Shiva hurls his fists. Subsequently, we witness another scene unfolding, and it’s Canary’s friends and family gathered around to watch the fight on television. It seems like an assembly of DC Universe characters, cheering her on, with Oliver taking the front line. The atmosphere is filled with camaraderie as they pile up snack-filled plates.

For quite some time now, I’ve been eager to share this story, and I can barely contain my enthusiasm as fans get a glimpse of what Ryan and I have been cooking up for Dinah, said King. “Ryan’s artistic style is just right for this series, and readers will truly feel every punch and kick from the very first issue all the way through to the last.
