As a follower of the Marvel universe, I’m excited to see it gathering momentum once more. Next up at bat are Captain America, The Thunderbolts, and the Fantastic Four, but there’s a cosmic hero who’s ready to shine – none other than fan-favorite Nova. Interestingly, Blue Beetle actor Xolo Maridueña has been rumored to be the one stepping into that role. In an exclusive interview with That Hashtag Show, Maridueña himself spoke about these speculations, and you can catch his insights in the video linked here.

View Urgent ForecastIn the interview, when asked about potentially being Nova, Maridueña expresses enthusiasm over the prospect. He says something along the lines of “That’d be neat too! Whatever it is, I mean, sure, that sounds fantastic. If it comes to pass, I’m ready for whatever challenges lie ahead, buddy. Let me pump up a bit, and if anyone needs me to do push-ups, I’m all set.
Xolo Maridueña has previously played a superhero character in Blue Beetle, and his impressive skills could translate perfectly to either Richard Rider or Sam Alexander’s roles, should Marvel choose to cast him for Nova. Given Nova’s significant stature within Marvel Cosmic, if Xolo were to secure the part, he might serve as a key supporting element across multiple films in the future, as Marvel continues to expand their cosmic universe.
One possible interpretation could be that Jaime Reyes’ (Maridueña) stint as Blue Beetle might be coming to an end, given the rarity of actors appearing as significant characters in both Marvel and DC movie franchises simultaneously. While some have switched between these universes or played multiple roles, it’s uncommon for anyone to hold a key role in both DC and Marvel films concurrently.
It’s possible that Xolo’s Blue Beetle will reappear in the DC movie world at some future time, given that James Gunn hinted that the film is connected to the new universe’s canon. However, since there are no official plans for Blue Beetle as part of the first phase of DC Studios, we can only speculate and wait for further updates.
The announcement that Nova is being worked on in some capacity was met with enthusiasm, and this was verified by Marvel’s head of streaming, animation, and television, Brad Winderbaum. Winderbaum expressed, “We’re big fans of Nova. We are deeply engaged in the initial stages of Nova’s development.
At Marvel Studios, we’ve implemented a new operational setup, according to Winderbaum. We’re now functioning similar to a traditional studio, focusing more on development than production. We have plans to develop the character Nova, a favorite of mine as well. I also hold Rich Rider in high regard and hope to see Nova make it to the screen someday. The world is always in turmoil, but with dedication and hard work, we can bring these projects to life. A Nova series is something I would dearly love to witness.
