DC’s Creature Commandos: Max Makes First Episode of New Series Free to Watch

As a long-time fan of James Gunn’s work, I must say that the new DC Universe series, Creature Commandos, is nothing short of a marvel! The first episode, now available on YouTube for free, has left me utterly captivated and craving more.

The DC Universe launched its latest venture earlier this month with the premiere of “Creature Commandos” on Max. This new animated series, produced by James Gunn who serves as co-chair at DC Studios and is known for his work on “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Suicide Squad,” and “Peacemaker,” has already garnered critical acclaim. Given Gunn’s past successes, it’s no wonder that “Creature Commandos” has been lauded since its debut. Warner Bros. is offering a chance for everyone to watch it, regardless of whether you have a Max subscription or not.

I’ve got some thrilling news to share! Max and DC Studios have generously shared the first episode of Creature Commandos on YouTube for everyone to enjoy, without any charges! This is merely the opening act, so if you find it captivating and can’t wait to see more, you’ll need to subscribe to Max. Given how fantastic Creature Commandos seems, that’s the gamble DC and WBD are taking. Give the episode a watch in the video above!

As a fervent fan, let me share my excitement about the intriguing world of Creature Commandos! It bears a striking resemblance to The Suicide Squad, in that it revolves around a group of individuals, this time not humans, but rather monstrous beings, who are dispatched on perilous missions. The mastermind behind these operations is none other than Amanda Waller, who maintains control over their lives like a puppeteer. Following the dramatic events of Peacemaker, Waller was instructed to cease using human prisoners for such missions. Consequently, the Creature Commandos team is uniquely composed of creatures, including the Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, Dr. Phosphorus, and more.

As a die-hard film aficionado, I’m always on the lookout for captivating stories, and the “Creature Commandos” has certainly caught my attention. In a recent chat with ComicBook, the showrunner, Dean Lorey, shed some fascinating insights into the intriguing roster of characters gracing our screens. What particularly struck me was his revelation that the quiet yet profound Nina Mazursky serves as the pulsating core of this entire series!

Initially, James developed this project out of personal interest. Before ascending to the co-presidency of DC Studios, he penned the initial four episodes. This was simply something he enjoyed doing, and he carefully chose the particular characters for the current season. If there are additional seasons, that would be great. However, what’s appealing about it is that by stripping away some of the characters’ usual aspects, each one has a clear, focused purpose. For instance, Nina is the soul of the show; she’s incredibly kind and sweet. My favorite character might just be G.I. Robot, who is simply delightful. I adore G.I. Robot because he’s so straightforward and specific. He only wants to eliminate Nazis and enjoys the company of his friends. That’s what he does – eliminate Nazis, and he appreciates his companions. The way these characters are developed with distinct personalities and objectives is wonderful, and they complement each other exceptionally well.

New episodes of Creature Commandos drop on Max every Thursday.
