DC’s Lanterns Adds Jasmine Cephas Jones to Cast in Key Role

The DC’s Lanterns television series is moving steadily towards its debut, and the cast keeps growing with significant roles. Recently, Jasmine Cephas Jones, known for shows like Origin and Blindspotting, has joined the cast, playing a pivotal character in John Stewart’s universe – Young Bernadette. In the current version of the series, Nicole Ari Parker (And Just Like That… and Remember The Titans) portrays this character. (Sources: Deadline)

In the upcoming show, Jones is expected to play a significant part, allowing viewers to witness Bernadette’s determination and capacity to maintain family stability amidst the challenges they face. She is often characterized as an insightful individual who strategically views the larger picture, while also setting high standards for herself and her loved ones.

Aaron Pierre is set to portray the character Stewart, joining forces with established Green Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. In the latest comics, readers have been given a deeper look at Stewart’s family background and how he evolved into the respected leader and hero we know today. It seems that the show will incorporate some of these elements to enrich the storyline as well.

Jones has left a significant impact on projects such as Blindspotting and #Freerayshawn, earning her an Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series Emmy Award. Furthermore, she received a Best Original Broadway Recording Grammy Award for Hamilton, and she’s also made strides in music with her album Phoenix.

I’m thrilled to share that the captivating lineup for Lanterns has been unveiled, boasting talents like Jones, Chandler, Pierre, Parker, Kelly Macdonald (Sheriff Kerry), Jason Ritter (Billy Macon), Poorna Jagannathan (Zoe), Garret Dillahunt (William Macon), Ulrich Thomsen (Sinestro), Sherman Augustus (John Senior), J. Alphonse Nicholson (Young John Senior), and Chris Coy. What a stellar assembly of talent!

In this project, Chris Mundy serves as the main producer (showrunner) for Lanterns. Alongside him, Tom King and Damon Lindelof take on dual roles as co-writers and executive producers. Additionally, James Hawes is part of the executive production team and is set to direct the initial two episodes of the series.

Lanterns is expected to debut in 2026, but no specific release date has been announced yet.
