As a long-time fan of Batman comics, I can confidently say that Scott Snyder’s latest creation, Absolute Batman, has been nothing short of extraordinary. Growing up with the Caped Crusader, I’ve seen countless interpretations of Bruce Wayne and his alter ego, but this one feels fresh and unique.
The Absolute Batman, penned by writer Scott Snyder and illustrated by Nick Dragotta, has been a resounding success. The comic has sold out every issue due to its A-list creative team, making DC competitive once more. Each book in the Absolute series offers a fresh perspective on iconic heroes, and Absolute Batman stands out as a unique interpretation of the Dark Knight. Unlike other iterations, this version of the Caped Crusader employs a level of brutality rarely seen by fans. Snyder, who has extensive experience with Batman, has crafted a new take on the character that is distinct from his past works. This reinvention has also allowed him to redefine Batman’s relationships with some of his most renowned adversaries.
In the world of Absolute Batman, written by Zack Snyder, Bruce Wayne’s version of Batman has been acquainted with many of his adversaries since childhood, providing an exciting chance to reimagine established characters. Yet, there’s one character that Snyder has chosen to handle in a somewhat traditional manner – Catwoman. In this narrative, Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne share a past where they first encountered each other as kids, reminiscent of the TV series Gotham. Here, their initial meeting happened when they were young, with Selina already dabbling in criminal activities, setting the stage for one of comics’ most iconic rivalries differently. However, Absolute Batman’s fresh take on Bruce and Selina offers a distinctive opportunity, one that only a filmmaker like Snyder could grasp.
It’s Time To Change The Relationship Of Batman And Catwoman One Way Or Another
In the first two issues of this exceptional run of Batman, Snyder and Dragotta have left readers captivated. The fresh take on Bruce Wayne’s origins adds a unique twist to the Batman storyline. In issue #2 of Absolute Batman, we were introduced to Selina Kyle, who was once friends with young Bruce Wayne, hinting at the usual dynamic between Batman and Catwoman. Instead of following tradition, DC could shake things up by either keeping them as a couple or using their relationship to forge an intense enmity – a bold move that the main universe has yet to explore.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on the captivating dynamic between Batman and Catwoman. From their initial encounters filled with tension and a touch of playful banter, Catwoman, who embodies the enigmatic allure of a classic femme fatale, has been entangled in a complex web with the Dark Knight.
Bat & Cat: Lovers? Friends? Or Rivals?
Scott Snyder, renowned for crafting popular Batman tales, didn’t delve deeply into Catwoman’s character. With new creative freedom in comic books, Snyder has an opportunity to explore fresh aspects of her personality. If the idea is for Catwoman and Bruce Wayne to have a significant relationship beyond adversaries, it might be time to shift dynamics. Perhaps their partnership could start from the outset in this case. The narrative of Absolute Batman has already significantly reshaped the core Batman mythology, and the dynamic between Batman and Catwoman is one such aspect that requires reimagining. Historically, DC Comics has been hesitant to establish a long-term relationship between these characters, but in this alternate universe, fans might finally get the Batman/Catwoman partnership they’ve eagerly anticipated since Tom King’s run on Batman.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: Instead of following the usual path, Snyder could shake things up by portraying a Batman who’s unlike any we’ve seen in a long time from DC. Growing up with Bruce and Selina, I can imagine how their bond might have been. But now, Bruce is Batman – a no-nonsense vigilante. Snyder could flip that expectation on its head by showing Batman and Catwoman not as adversaries with a friendly undercurrent, but as bitter enemies.
In this alternate reality, I call the Absolute Universe, there’s no “Superman-like optimism” – the force of belief in triumph that enables our heroes to prevail even when all seems lost in the primary universe. Darkseid yearns for a realm fueled by the energy he embodies – the energy of despair and malevolence. To truly illustrate this contrast, I propose altering the bond between Batman and Catwoman. They could either be a pair bound together by a harsh world that can only endure as one, or their relationship could plummet into a dangerously dark abyss due to the absence of such optimism. The Absolute Universe holds immense promise, and I believe its potential is best realized through creating the starkest possible contrast with the main universe.
