As a gamer who’s been through countless battles and adventures in various virtual worlds, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when it comes to real-life series like “Peacemaker” Season 2. The first season was a rollercoaster ride of action, humor, and unexpected twists, and I’m eagerly anticipating where the story goes next.
Team Peacemaker has resumed their work. Prior to the final episode of The Penguin’s current season airing on Sunday, a sneak peek at the second season of another upcoming DC series on the streaming service, titled Peacemaker, was unveiled by Max. Amidst glimpses of the Dune prequel Dune: Prophecy, the IT prequel Welcome to Derry, The Last of Us season 2, and a Game of Thrones spinoff named A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, footage from the second season of this James Gunn-created series, set in the new DC Universe following the events of his Superman movie, was also shown.
“No matter how far away we are from each other, no one will ever break us apart,” John Cena’s Christopher Smith says over footage of the “11th Street Kids” gang toasting with beers: Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), and Adrian Chase / Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). Nestled amidst scenes depicting a violent tavern brawl and Peacemaker slashing an individual’s neck, we get our initial glimpse of Rick Flag Senior (played by Frank Grillo) – the father of ex-Task Force X leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), who was killed by Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Grillo will initially provide the voice for Rick Flag Senior in the animated series Creature Commandos, then make his appearance in Superman, slated for a theater release on July 11, 2025, followed by Peacemaker season 2 (available in the second half of 2025).
Here’s the gist: I’m the one portraying Peacemaker, as confirmed by my recent interview with Variety. The delay between seasons was about four years. When we finally released the show and it became the top-rated on Max, it was a big deal because Peacemaker, a character who was supposed to be dead after The Suicide Squad, came back to life. People loved the universe and wanted more. However, there’s been a change in the leadership at DC, which could impact the future of the show.
James and Peter [Safran] actually reached out to me, stating, ‘You know what, we need some time to get this perfect. However, it’s going to take a bit of time,'” Cena explained. “This was surprising since people seemed eager for more, so we decided to proceed again. Everyone then said, ‘Hold on, there are a few things we need to address first. We have a whole plan, and all these elements will align perfectly if you trust us.’ Now that we’re filming daily, it feels like season 2 is just around the corner.

DC Studios’ “Creature Commandos” makes its premiere on Max on December 5th. “Superman” is set for a July 2025 release as the inaugural film in the new DC Universe continuity, with the second season of “Peacemaker” scheduled to drop sometime next year.
