As a lifelong fan of DC Comics, I must say that the casting for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has me absolutely thrilled! The choice of Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle is simply brilliant, and her acting chops, as demonstrated in ‘3 Body Problem,’ will undoubtedly bring a nuanced depth to this pivotal character.

Among the exciting DC Studios projects underway, one that stands out is the Supergirl movie adaptation, which is inspired by the popular comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” penned by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Recent reports from Deadline indicate that Eve Ridley, star of “The Three-Body Problem,” has been cast as Ruthye Mary Knolle. She will be working alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, known for “Rust and Bone,” who plays Krem, and Milly Alcock, fresh from “House of the Dragon,” who takes on the role of Supergirl.

In the film, if it follows the original plot closely as anticipated, Ridley will take on a crucial role. Similar to how Supergirl is central in her story, Ruthye also plays a significant part. She’s introduced after the unfortunate demise of her father at the hands of the King’s wicked agent, Krem, portrayed by Schoenaerts.

Later, she swears to track down Krem and locates a potential ally who might assist her in this quest. However, the individual she hires takes her money and leaves her unconscious. In a state of intoxication, Supergirl intervenes and returns the money (which turns out to be Krem’s sword, a weapon he left behind after wounding Ruthye’s father). Despite this act of kindness, Supergirl declines to aid in the search for Krem.

When Krem assaults Supergirl, Ruthye, and Krypto, causing harm to the young Kryptonian dog in the process. Krem also makes off with Supergirl’s spacecraft, which sets in motion the series-defining alliance. With Ridley’s casting, three crucial characters for the story are now confirmed, and we’ve even glimpsed the cinematic rendition of Krypto thanks to Superman! Things seem to be falling into place nicely, and here’s hoping the movie production won’t take much longer.

A Talented Crew

Craig Gillespie, known for movies like I, Tonya, Cruella, Dumb Money, and Pam & Tommy, will be at the helm for Supergirl. The screenplay is being penned by Ana Nogueira, who frequently collaborates with James Gunn and Peter Safran. Interestingly, Nogueira had previously worked on a different Supergirl film featuring Sasha Calle as The Flash’s version of the character, but that project was eventually abandoned. However, a fresh take on the character has been given the green light, drawing inspiration from a contemporary classic, much like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow does.

Regarding the launch dates, Superman is set to premiere on July 11th, 2025, with Supergirl coming next as the second film in the initial wave of projects from DC Studios, scheduled for June 26th, 2026. Interestingly, the first project from DC Studios will actually kick off this year, as Creature Commandos is slated to debut on Max on December 5th, marking the start of a new era for DC Studios.
