DC’s Villains Unleashed: First Look at James Gunn’s Epic Supervillain Posters!

James Gunn’s DC Studios has unveiled its initial collection of posters featuring live-action supervillains, offering a captivating glimpse into some of the iconic characters gracing the screen in the rebooted DC Universe’s first major motion picture. Fans might find it intriguing that so many villains are being showcased by DC Studios just under a month before the movie’s premiere.

2025 can’t come soon enough as I eagerly await the release of Superman on July 11! Recently, DC Studios and director James Gunn have shared an exciting collection of character posters, providing glimpses into the world of David Corenswet’s Superman and Clark Kent, as well as Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. The film has been rated PG-13, adding to the suspense. With anticipation growing, the studio is now shedding light on its roster of villains, unveiling captivating posters that delve into the sinister side of the DC Universe.

First DCU Villain Posters

Lex Luthor

In the latest character poster for Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor, there’s an undeniable air of sophisticated wickedness that mirrors the DC Universe’s fresh perspective on Superman’s most famous adversary. Clad in a well-tailored suit and flaunting a pinky ring, Hoult embodies both the alluring and merciless aspects of a cunning businessman. This sneak peek offers fans a tantalizing glimpse into the smooth facade concealing Luthor’s dark intentions.

In the movie Superman, Lex is set to be the primary instigator of the toughest conflicts for the Man of Steel, playing a crucial role against Clark Kent and Lois Lane. In the film’s preview, we’ve seen Lex infiltrating the Fortress of Solitude, hinting at his significant influence within Superman’s universe.

The Engineer

María Gabriela de Faría’s Engineer character exudes intensity in her promotional image, showcasing a bold stare and gestures that suggest impending peril for Superman. Although inspired by her comic book counterpart, this interpretation of the Engineer seems to be a fusion of original DC characters, boasting a sturdy physique augmented by fluid machinery that transforms into an array of weapons at will. The poster emphasizes her as a formidable adversary, one whose technology-based abilities make her stand out among Superman’s usual rogues.

Stepping into the role of a character from the DC Comics universe, it’s clear that this character’s introduction could potentially pave the way for the emergence of formidable new adversaries within the DC Universe, should the film materialize.

Eve Teschmacher

Sara Sampaio’s portrayal of Eve Teschmacher showcases a lively, snapshot-worthy pose in her character poster, further cementing this amusing recurring element. Reminiscent of always-in-the-moment selfie-taking, it appears to be a distinctive characteristic of her role. Initially glimpsed briefly in the Superman trailer, Eve is depicted giving a peace sign and sticking out her tongue while Superman grapples with disorder behind her.

From a movie enthusiast’s perspective, as Lex Luthor’s girlfriend and presumably his most trusted confidante, she could play a significant role off-screen, perhaps managing LuthorCorp’s public relations or subtly shaping events from the shadows. Despite her screen presence being uncertain, Sampaio’s Eve, with her eye-catching poster and striking trailer moment, suggests she might not require extensive on-screen time to leave a lasting impression.

DCU Posters for Live-Action Antagonists

Metamorpho

Anthony Carrigan’s character, Metamorpho, shines in his character poster with a remarkable use of practical makeup and prosthetics, making the element-changing antihero feel real and gritty. Although listed as one of Superman’s adversaries, Metamorpho seems to be one of the movie’s most complex characters. In the trailer, he is depicted capturing Superman (perhaps under Lex’s command) by employing a Kryptonite-laced arm within a high-tech prison. However, signs of a potential redemption storyline imply that his role could change, possibly switching allegiances as the plot progresses.

Carrying the power to shape-shift at will, Carrigan’s Metamorpho appears to be more than simply an adversary within the DC Universe. Instead, he embodies an unpredictable factor, a wild card.

Rick Flag Sr.

As a cinephile, I must say that Frank Grillo’s portrayal of Rick Flag Sr. exudes a tough, authoritative aura that perfectly fits his character. His ‘Superman’ character poster mirrors this demeanor, projecting a straightforward and no-nonsense image. Initially, his role in the movie caused some confusion, particularly after the trailer suggested he was the Secretary of Defense. However, James Gunn has since clarified that Flag Sr. is, in fact, the leader of ARGUS, working hand-in-glove with the actual Secretary of Defense, General Mori. This plot device establishes the U.S. government’s decision to apprehend Superman within the film’s narrative.

In the animated “Creature Commandos” series, Rick Flag Sr., as portrayed by Grillo, made his first appearance. He is set to reappear in “Peacemaker” Season 2, hinting at a more significant, Nick Fury-esque role within the DC Universe.

Steve Lombard

Steve Lombard, portrayed by Beck Bennett, stirs up work-related turmoil within the world of Superman. His character poster encapsulates the brash vigor that makes him Clark Kent’s most significant non-supernatural annoyance. As Bennett refers to him as the “Daily Planet’s arrogant fellow,” Lombard is a boisterous, overly macho sports reporter known for his lack of tact, someone who believes he’s the dominant figure in every setting but could be hiding underlying insecurities.

He frequently presents as a common adversary for Clark, providing a realistic counterbalance to the various earthly and universal dangers that Superman must confront.

Cat Grant

In a stylish nod to the timeless elegance of Metropolis, Mikaela Hoover’s portrayal of Cat Grant in Superman exudes charm. Her character poster captures this essence beautifully, featuring bold red lipstick, distinctive glasses, and a vibrant red-orange gown. With a hint of intrigue in her gaze as she looks upward, Cat appears ready to either appraise or flirt with the towering figures around her.

In most newsrooms, the cat is famously vocal, much like a daring, chatty comic strip columnist who loves to cause a stir and even has feelings for Clark Kent from time to time.
