Dead by Daylight Spinoff Canceled Due to Poor Response from Players

As a seasoned gamer with years of playing time under my belt, I must confess that the cancellation of “Project T” has left me feeling somewhat crestfallen. The allure of exploring a new universe within the “Dead by Daylight” franchise, combined with the thrill of a PvE shooter akin to “Left 4 Dead”, had me eagerly anticipating this spin-off.

As a dedicated gamer, I was really looking forward to diving into the world of Dead by Daylight with Project T, the latest spin-off announced by Behaviour Interactive earlier this year. However, my excitement took a hit when they recently announced its cancellation.

As a passionate gamer, I had the opportunity to delve into an exciting new adventure with Project T this year, accessible through Steam and Behaviour’s recently introduced Insider Program. This game was set in the captivating universe of Dead by Daylight, but its four-player cooperative style where we battled, drove, and explored various missions earned it comparisons to Left 4 Dead.

In the planning stages of our project, it was crucial for us to bring players on board right away, giving rise to our Insiders Program. This strategy has given us valuable feedback on the core design and gameplay of Project T at an early stage in production – something that typically happens later in a game’s development. After the playtest in July, we conducted a comprehensive review from both a product and commercial standpoint. Although many of you praised your experience, the final results of this detailed analysis were disappointing overall.

The trailer you see above was essentially the first official reveal of “Project T,” apart from occasional social media mentions and some developer updates on Steam. This might explain why some people were unaware that “Project T” existed, since it was mostly in a technical playtest phase and the tests were exclusive to the Insider Program, limiting the potential audience. Unlike a demo, the game wasn’t widely accessible, though those who were aware of “Project T” didn’t seem as surprised by its cancellation.

Behaviour Interactive has ventured into various spin-offs of the popular game “Dead by Daylight”, with the latest being “The Casting of Frank Stone”, created by Supermassive Entertainment, known for the Dark Pictures Anthology series. Other spin-offs from “Dead by Daylight” include the surprising dating sim “Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim”, the free game “What the Fog”, and a mobile adaptation of “Dead by Daylight”. In addition to these, Behaviour Interactive has also developed games like “Meet Your Maker”; however, the team working on that title shifted their focus towards new projects as of March 2024.

Currently, what makes Behaviour stand out is undoubtedly Dead by Daylight, as it continues to have DLCs planned through next year. This is especially exciting because the Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter is slated for release during that time.
