Dead by Daylight Updates Dracula Ahead of Release

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia as I delve into the impending arrival of the Castlevania chapter in Dead by Daylight. Having grown up with Simon Belmont whipping his way through hordes of Dracula’s minions, it’s a dream come true to see the iconic characters make their mark on this beloved survival horror game.

The “Castlevania” expansion is set to join “Dead by Daylight” towards the end of this month, having been on test servers since August 6th initially. To make sure everything runs smoothly before the DLC officially launches in-game, developers at Behaviour Interactive have been working hard and have now published a blog post detailing all the changes happening from the Public Test Build (PTB) to the live release of the 8.2.0 Update. Among these updates is an enhancement to the character – Dracula, or the Dark Lord himself.

Dead by Daylight Updates Dracula Ahead of Release

The Killers and Perk changes listed in the blog post include:

The Dark Lord – Minor Update

  • [CHANGE] Increased movement speed after casting Hellfire to 2m/s (was 1.48m/s).
  • [CHANGE] Decreased Hellfire charge time to 0.9 seconds (was 1 second).
  • [CHANGE] Adjustments to various Add-Ons.

Developer Note: The Hellfire assault was effective in the PTB testing. We’ve optimized the charge time and movement speed for a more enjoyable user experience. This enhancement also includes making the deceleration and acceleration after cancelling the attack less abrupt and smoother.

  • [CHANGE] Increased movement speed in Wolf Form to 4.6m/s (was 4.4m/s). Haste from Scent Orbs will increase your speed to 4.8m/s.
  • [CHANGE] Reduced cooldown of Pounce attack to 20 seconds (was 25 seconds).
  • [CHANGE] Colliding with a wall or obstacle during the first Pounce will no longer end your Power.

As an avid player, I couldn’t help but notice that the Wolf form seemed to require a bit more finesse. For the upcoming release, we’ve decided to give the Wolf a boost in speed, matching it with the Vampire Form at 4.6m/s. We also thought it wise to lessen the cooldown on the Pounce attack, making it less of a struggle to find the perfect position for a second Pounce, without having your Power drained by collisions during the first one.

The Nemesis

  • [CHANGE] Increased Mutation Rate 3 Tentacle Strike range to 6.5 meters (was 6 meters).
  • [CHANGE] Decreased successful Tentacle Strike cooldown to 2.25 seconds (was 2.5 seconds).

As a fan, I’ve noticed that the modifications in the PTB significantly boosted The Nemesis’ performance at the start of a match. However, many players, including me, felt there was still room for improvement. In response to this feedback, we’ve fine-tuned his Tentacle Strike to make it even more lethal when executed skillfully.

The Knight

  • [NEW] Each guard has a separate cooldown:

The Assassin: 30 seconds
The Jailer: 25 seconds
The Carnifex: 20 seconds

  • [NEW] Summoning a guard will cause any active guard to despawn.
  • [NEW] Hitting a patrolling guard with a basic attack will reduce their cooldown to 10 seconds.

Note for Developers: In the past PTB, accidentally, two different guards could be deployed at once instead of one. However, this unexpected mechanic was appreciated by many players. We discovered that having separate cool-down times for each guard allowed players to choose the optimal guard for specific situations, whereas a shared cool-down tended to favor using the most powerful guard.

Human Greed

  • [CHANGE] Reduced cooldown to 60/45/30 seconds (was 80/70/60 seconds).

Developer’s Note: In the Practice Test Battlefield (PTB), the time between opening chests was quite extended, therefore, we’ve substantially decreased it.

Exultation

The following change will be implemented in a minor patch in the coming weeks.

  • [REMOVED] Removed the condition which prevented upgraded Items from being kept at the end of the trial.

Developer Note: To cater to many users who wished to retain the upgraded items they had put their lives on the line for, we plan to eliminate that requirement in an upcoming update. Keep enjoying the rewards of your efforts!

Starting from today, the Castlevania DLC for Dead by Daylight is going to be available on testing servers. It’ll officially launch on all platforms on August 27th.
