Deadpool Holiday Special Puts a Yuletide Twist on Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine

As a lifelong comic book enthusiast and a self-proclaimed Deadpool devotee, I must say that Disney has truly outdone themselves this time with the Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special! Growing up, I never imagined that the Merc with a Mouth would be gracing the hallowed halls of Disneyland, but here we are.

This holiday season, Deadpool is dominating the entertainment scene. Known as “The Merc with a Mouth”, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut this summer in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, setting a new record for highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time, earning an impressive $1.3 billion at the global box office. Now, Disney has brought Deadpool to Avengers Campus, the Marvel-themed area within Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort, where he regales park visitors with tales suitable for families during his limited-time offering called Story Time with Deadpool – marking the first Disney Parks experience inspired by an R-rated film.

Embracing harmony and traditional festive spirit, Disney has transformed Story Time with Deadpool into a fresh, limited-edition Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special. The 10-minute production features Deadpool, brimming with holiday joy, ready to regale some brand new, exceptionally special, holiday tales. According to the official summary, these stories will bring smiles, enchantment, and a unique holiday cheer that only Deadpool can deliver.

During the festive season at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California (from November 15, 2024 to January 6, 2025), ComicBook was fortunate enough to watch the Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special. This unique live entertainment event took place in the old Rogers: The Musical venue, which is conveniently situated between Terran Treats and the Hyperion Theater, close to the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout ride.

The series incorporates self-referential humor, making references to various sources such as Disney+ where Deadpool and Wolverine are currently streaming, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and a jab at Channing Tatum’s Gambit. This aligns perfectly with the humorous and self-aware nature of Deadpool. Despite being less explicit than the R-rated Deadpool and Wolverine, the Deadpool Holiday Special maintains a level of sauciness that surpasses typical entertainment found in Disney Parks.

The Story Time with Deadpool Holiday Special shares similarities with “Once Upon a Deadpool”, a Christmas-themed, PG-13 edit of the 2018 R-rated film “Deadpool 2”. Instead of Deadpool reading a bedtime story to an adult Fred Savage in a manner reminiscent of “The Princess Bride”, this special features Santa Pool arriving on a unicorn and telling a holiday-themed tale brimming with festive joy.
