As a lifelong comic book enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from its humble beginnings, I must say that the recent collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine under director Shawn Levy’s guidance is nothing short of a dream come true. It’s like being a kid in a candy store, except instead of candies, there are superheroes – and not just any superheroes, but the heroes of franchises past!
Hey there, fellow gamer! Stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) feels like joining a game when my character’s health is low, but that’s just what Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool jokes about Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine comeback in “Deadpool & Wolverine”. For director Shawn Levy, however, it was an incredible moment, assembling legends from previous franchises like Gambit (Channing Tatum), Blade (Wesley Snipes), and Elektra (Jennifer Garner). Their surprise appearances were a secret until now! With our R-rated Marvel Studios movie set to smash the $1 billion mark at the global box office, Shawn is giving us a peek behind the scenes with some awesome set photos. Enjoy!
“Levy posted on Instagram, ‘It’s not just like a kid in a candy store,’ he said, sharing a picture of Tatum, Snipes, Garner, and Dafne Keen’s X-23 on set. A week early, they all flew to England to perfect their fight scenes before filming. Unfortunately, the following day, filming was halted due to an actor’s strike. However, these four friends returned as soon as shooting recommenced and surpassed expectations, as you can see now.”
Delighted to translate these characters onto the silver screen, and fortunate to consider them as my friends, is what Levy shared further.
Levy too posted a perspective of the trio just prior to their grand entry into the Void, saying, “Is this what you observe just moments before shouting ‘Action’?”
When THIS is what you see right before you call “Action”??#DeadpoolandWolverine

In the movie, several actors who previously starred in Marvel films from the Fox era made a comeback. This includes Chris Evans reprising his role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, last seen in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and 2005’s Fantastic Four; Aaron Stanford appearing as Pyro, known from X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006); and Tyler Mane returning as Sabretooth, a character he portrayed in the 2000 film X-Men.
In the vast, interdimensional gaming realm I found myself in, a colorful assortment of familiar faces popped up. Among them were alternate universes’ versions of Toad (Daniel Medina Ramos), Azazel (Eduardo Gago Munoz), Lady Deathstrike (Jade Lye), the Blob (Mike Waters), Psylocke (Ayesha Hussain), and Juggernaut (Aaron W. Reed) from the X-Men, The Punisher’s Russian (Billy Clements) and Daredevil’s Bullseye (Curtis Small). It was an exciting encounter!
