As a lifelong Marvel fan and someone who has fondly remembered Chris Evans‘ portrayal of Johnny Storm/Human Torch from the Fantastic Four movies, I must say that his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine was an absolute delight! The unexpected return of my favorite pyro-powered superhero brought a sense of nostalgia and excitement that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
In present cinema screenings, the third installment of Deadpool and Wolverine is flourishing, breaking records for Marvel Studios. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s been certified fresh by critics with an impressive rating of 78% and an astounding audience score of 96%. Jenna Anderson from ComicBook gave it a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5, praising it as a “madcap, significant masterpiece.” The film offers numerous surprises, including unexpected appearances by some famous faces. Chris Evans makes an unscheduled comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not in his Captain America role. Instead, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) encounter him in a strange realm called The Void, where he’s unveiled as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, the character Evans played in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). In the movie’s post-credit scene, Evans delivers some explicit dialogue, a topic he discussed recently with People magazine.
A while back, Ryan [Reynolds] texted me, we’re friends you know, he said. He didn’t push if I liked his idea or not, but he mentioned something that could create quite a stir and give me an opportunity to play a character from my earlier days. If I wasn’t interested, no problem at all.
As a grateful gamer in this game of life, I’d jump at any request from Ryan. He’s not just the director who gave me a memorable role in Free Guy, but someone I wholeheartedly trust. The opportunity to reprise my character as Johnny was too good to miss. It was an exhilarating experience, both on and off-screen. When Ryan suggested using cue cards, I laughed, “Cue cards? I’ve got the lines memorized!”
“Evans clarified, ‘I rarely get to speak lines like these, but believe me, I’ll savor each moment of it. It’s all committed to memory.'”
Chris Evans Reacts To His Marvel Return:
Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans took to Instagram to rejoice over his comeback as Johnny Storm.
“Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie!” Evans shared on his Instagram stories. “They’re three of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
In a recent interview, Evans mentioned that a simple text message from Reynolds was what convinced him to join the project.
“Evans expressed his enthusiasm, stating, ‘I was thrilled because Ryan’s a close friend. He texted me out of the blue and asked if I’d consider reviving something from two decades back. Needless to say, my answer was an immediate yes!'”
In essence, Ryan is the only individual I could consider for such an action due to his unique charm, often referred to as the Midas touch. His self-awareness is remarkable, bordering on invincibility. He anticipates humor before it even crosses the audience’s mind, which is particularly useful when revisiting characters. If you’re seeking a way to make these characters resonate, Ryan’s humor makes most scenarios work seamlessly, giving a sense of security.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters.
