As a gamer with a soft spot for Marvel movies, I must say that the latest behind-the-scenes glimpses of Deadpool & Wolverine have me more excited than a cat with five mice! The concept art by David Masson San Gabriel is a visual treat, especially the Roninpool and Punkpool designs. It’s always fascinating to see the creative process that goes into these films, from the initial sketch to the final product on the big screen.
The movie pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine continues to be a box office hit, and those involved in its production are offering fans exclusive glimpses into the film’s creation process. Lead actor Ryan Reynolds has been regularly sharing behind-the-scenes photos, and visual artists have been posting their unutilized artwork from the movie. Artist David Masson San Gabriel recently shared a peek of his work on the Deadpool variant called Roninpool, which he was tasked with designing.
San Gabriel mentioned that he wore a black hat and was depicted as one of the Deadpool Corps members in the movie. He even included an initial sketch for those interested in the creative process. The costume designer credited is Mayes Rubeo, and it’s a mystery to San Gabriel who played the character. 🙂
Additionally, San Gabriel was the creator of Punkpool – an alternative inspired by punk rock music, but it didn’t end up being included in the final version.
“San Gabriel posted on Instagram about another design that didn’t quite fit, Punkpool! Next up, I will share the ones that did end up in the movie,” San Gabriel shared on Instagram, alongside the concept art. In it, Deadpool is sporting a mohawk, plaid pants, and an abundance of studded attire that would make The Misfits envious. Check out the concept art below to see for yourself!

In the Marvel Studios production titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool teams up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to alter the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, and a return of several Deadpool cast members including Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapi?i?, Brianna Hildebrand, Rob Delaney, Lewis Tan, and Aaron Stanford, who reprises his role as Pyro from the X-Men film franchise.
Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the main producers for this project, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg serving in executive producer roles. The script for Deadpool & Wolverine was penned by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. As of now, you can only catch Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters.
