Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art Reveals Cut Wolverine-Deadpool Variant

As a lifelong Marvel fan who’s seen more than his fair share of comic books and movie adaptations, I must say that the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” is shaping up to be an absolute marvel (pun intended)! The concept art for Wolverinepool, or should I say Wolverpol, had me at “hello.” It’s a testament to the creative minds behind this production that they even considered such a brilliant amalgamation!

Stepping into the multiverse, I found myself surrounded by familiar faces from the Deadpool & Wolverine universe. Among them were multiple versions of Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman). The Deadpool Corps was a sight to behold, filled with one hundred kill-thirsty Deadpools – including Lady Deadpool (Blake Lively), Kidpool, Babypool (Inez and Olin Reynolds), Headpool (Nathan Fillion), and the gun-slinging Cowboypool (Matthew McConaughey). Various alternate universe Wolverines also made an appearance, such as Old Man Logan, Comic-Accurate Short King Wolverine, and Cavillrine (Henry Cavill).

One proposed character didn’t progress beyond the idea stage: a fusion of Deadpool and Wolverine. Concept artist David Masson, who previously worked as a costume designer for Marvel Studios on shows like “WandaVision” and “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and will work on “Deadpool 3,” unveiled the amalgamated Wade Wilson/Wolverine in new concept art shared on Instagram.

“Look at this Wolverinepool or Wolverpool design by Mayes Rubeo! Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen for the final version.” (Informal and easy to read)

In the following post, Masson hinted at other versions of Deadpool that didn’t make the final cut. These included Punkpool, a Deadpool inspired by Lucha libre wrestling, and Grannypool, who bears a resemblance to Bea Arthur – a character Masson mentioned as being favored by Deadpool, who is known to be a fan of “Golden Girls”.

Masson shared a fresh perspective on Nicepool, the charming and handsome Deadpool spin-off portrayed by Ryan Reynolds without his usual disfigured appearance. In his post, Masson expressed how enjoyable it was to collaborate on this character and many others under the guidance of @mayesrubeo. Mayes suggested a candy paint finish for some of the armor pieces, which turned out fantastic. Additionally, the forearm and leg armor were derived from an earlier version of the main Deadpool costume by @andyparkart, with a distinct color and material arrangement.

Artist Wesley Burt unveiled sketches of Wolverine versions that eventually appeared in the movie, such as the Age of Apocalypse Weapon X and the eyepatch-wearing Patch (portrayed by Jackman). Meanwhile, artist Rodney Fuentebella showcased an early concept sketch featuring a T-Rex Deadpool, Deadpools armed with lightsabers, and these characters battling alongside Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Chris Evans’ Human Torch, and Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

In the upcoming book titled “Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie“, an exclusive collection of previously unseen artwork will be displayed, including additional pieces mentioned above. This 224-page art book can be yours starting October 29th.
