As a longtime gamer and comic book fan, I’m beyond excited for the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie, and Emma Corrin’s revelation about how she came to play the enigmatic Cassandra Nova only adds fuel to my anticipation.

Emma Corrin shares how she discovered her character, Cassandra Nova from “Deadpool & Wolverine,” became connected to the X-Men universe. The upcoming third “Deadpool” film and the debut of the first “X-Men” production under Marvel Studios are creating buzz at the box office with estimates reaching $370 million. After the initial trailer release, there was much speculation about Emma Corrin’s enigmatic character, with Cassandra Nova as a strong possibility. However, it wasn’t until the movie’s official summary emerged that this theory was confirmed. Now, Corrin is shedding light on her journey to understand Cassandra Nova’s background in the X-Men lore.

Before the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” ComicBook had a conversation with Emma Corrin. We questioned the actor about introducing Shawn Levy to their shared character, Cassandra Nova. “Shawn came to London and saw a play I was in,” Corrin explained. “We went for dinner, and he proposed the project. I replied, ‘That sounds amazing. I’m on board.'”

Corrin responded, “They didn’t entirely convince me. I revisited some of their past performances out of curiosity since telepathic abilities are involved. However, I’m not certain I fully adopted their interpretations.” Regarding her approach to portraying telepathy, she explained, “I liken it to working through complex mathematical problems in my mind.” (You can view the interview in the video player above.)

Who is Deadpool & Wolverine’s Cassandra Nova?

In 2001’s “New X-Men” issue 114, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely introduced the character of Cassandra Nova. Like her twin brother, Charles Xavier, Cassandra wields telekinetic and telepathic abilities. She employs these powers in her mission against what she perceives as a threat – the mutant population. Among her most heinous deeds is unleashing an horde of mutant-hunting robots named Sentinels onto the island nation of Genosha, leading to the fatalities of over 16 million “Homo Superior” beings.

Later on, it becomes known that Professor X made an attempt to take the life of his unborn twin sister due to sensing her immense wickedness. However, Professor X lacks any memory of possessing a sister. Jean Grey elucidates that the Xavier sibling was born devoid of a physical body, subsisting by utilizing Charles’ cells and imitating human characteristics. Cassandra is referred to as a “Mummudrai”: an intangible being composed entirely of emotional energy.
