Deadpool & Wolverine ending explained – who joins the MCU?

As a long-time Marvel fan and movie lover, I have to admit that Deadpool & Wolverine was a breath of fresh air for the MCU. The film’s self-deprecating humor and fourth-wall breaking antics were a welcome departure from some of the more serious and heavy-handed storylines we’ve seen in recent years.

**WARNING: Contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine**

In recent years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t been at its best, a fact that Deadpool and Wolverine have joked about frequently.

In the latest film release, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman make their official appearance with their renowned characters. Regardless of your views on the movie’s artistic value, including these popular figures and an array of high-profile cameos is expected to give a significant boost, financially speaking, to the struggling franchise.

I’ve taken a six-year break from my superhero life after being rejected by the Avengers when I asked Happy Hogan for a spot in their team. Now, I work as a car salesman alongside my buddy Peter. The thrill of saving lives has been replaced by selling vehicles, but who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll get another chance to suit up and make a difference.

During his birthday celebration with dear ones such as Blind Al (Lesley Uggums) and ex-fiancée Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), he is unexpectedly approached by a group of agents from The Variance Authority (TVA). Subsequently, he is led to meet an enigmatic man called Mr Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen).

Paradox gives Wade an opportunity to realize his long-held desire of merging with the “hallowed sequence” of events. However, this possibility comes with a catch: if Logan, also known as Wolverine, dies in his universe, it could lead to its destruction.

After learning this new information, Wade embarks on a quest across the multiverse to find an alternate version of Wolverine. Despite numerous unsuccessful attempts, he eventually selects one who is deeply distressed and carries a notoriously poor reputation among other beings.

After returning with Wolverine, the duo were exiled by Paradox to a desolate land resembling Mad Max’s world, called the Void. In this barren place, they encountered Professor X’s wicked sibling, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).

Prepare for several graphic battle sequences, numerous surprise appearances from Deadpool versions, and the struggle of Wade and Logan to escape the Void before it’s too late. For those who have seen the movie and require a refresher on the finale or are simply eager to uncover all the spoilers, keep reading to understand the ending of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine ending explained

Discovering a group of Void resistance fighters consisting of Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and X-23 (Dafne Keen), Wade and Logan team up with them to launch an attack on Cassandra Nova’s hideout.

As a cinema devotee, I’d rephrase it like this: I was looking forward to their scheme of utilizing Juggernaut’s helmet to manipulate her into returning to Wade’s timeline. However, things took an unexpected turn when Pyro, aka Aaron Stanford, unexpectedly fired at Cassandra. To my astonishment, it was then unveiled that he had been secretly working for Paradox all along.

In the midst of the confusion, Wade is persuaded by Logan to take off Cassandra’s helmet. Grateful for their help, she then creates a portal between dimensions using a borrowed sling ring from a Doctor Strange analog, enabling their safe return.

In Wade’s past, we learn that Paradox is employing a gadget called a Time Ripper to discard unnecessary timelines, which includes ours. So, the action is just beginning.

As Cassandra emerges from the Void, she takes charge of the Time Ripper with the intention of annihilating the multiverse except for the Void itself. This only adds to the chaos that already surrounds us.

Additionally, she’s joined by an enormous horde of Deadpool counterparts, clashing with Wade and Logan. However, they manage to break free due to the sudden appearance of Peter, whom Deadpool cherishes in all realities.

After that, they hurried towards Paradox’s stronghold with the urgency of impending doom. Upon arrival, they discovered that the sole method of halting the Time Ripper involved forming an energy bridge using their own bodies – a perilous act carrying the heavy price of potential fatalities.

In a heated dispute, Deadpool and Wolverine debate which of them should make the ultimate sacrifice. However, in the end, Deadpool is the one who makes the move, dismissing Wolverine’s arguments that he should be the one to go since unlike Deadpool, he has no one who would mourn his loss.

After Deadpool initiates the destruction of the Time Ripper and Cassandra, Wolverine quickly follows suit, joining hands with him for double the damage.

Following their successful resolution of the situation, Paradox attempts to feign innocence about the entire scheme, yet none are convinced. Consequently, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) apprehends him and places him under arrest.

Who joined the MCU at the end of Deadpool and Wolverine?

Deadpool & Wolverine ending explained – who joins the MCU?

In the movie, several old characters make appearances and even take on significant roles. However, will any of them continue to show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future?

It’s uncertain if these alternate versions of Elektra, Gambit, and Blade will reappear significantly after the announcement of Mahershala Ali portraying a new Blade in an upcoming movie. Deadpool requested that the TVA consider recruiting them, but it’s unlikely we’ll see them again in major roles based on this information.

X-23’s situation might differ from what is suggested for her, as she’s depicted attending a party at Wade’s house in the film’s concluding scene. It’s plausible that she may become a regular presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward – we’ll stay informed about any new updates.

In the case of Logan’s variant in this storyline, he ends up remaining in Wade’s timeframe and forms a close bond with Deadpool, including being introduced to Blind Al. At first, he intended to alter his past, but eventually understands that his past struggles are what made him valuable and necessary to stay the same.

The door remains open for more of the character to be explored in the future, and we can be certain that Deadpool won’t be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he’s officially become a part of it. There are hints throughout the story, such as Thor’s forward-looking scene, suggesting that Deadpool could have a significant role to play moving forward.
