Since its theater release in July, the Marvel Studios film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine has been ruling the box office, shattering numerous records such as being the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. This Labor Day weekend, it’s anticipated that the film will once again claim the top spot at the box office. While Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) are prominent actors in the MCU film, a new breakout star has emerged: Dogpool. In the movie, this lovable pooch is played by Peggy, who won the Ugliest Dog award in Britain. Soon, Dogpool will have its own comic, and the character is also gaining popularity on social media.
Earlier today, the official Instagram account for Dogpool hit 1 million followers, and this milestone was also shared by Jackman on his Instagram stories. In the post, Dogpool wrote, “I’m not sure why Thor was crying… but I know what makes me emotional,” as a caption. You can take a look at it below:
In an interview with Empire, Reynolds expressed that he felt an instant affection for Dogpool, which he fondly referred to as ‘her’. Dogpool is actually Peggy, who won the title of Britain’s Ugliest Dog. Reynolds went on to say that he strongly supported her because she reminded him of Wade Wilson in animal form.
As I delved into the creative process, I discovered that the character of Dogpool started off as an insignificant detail. However, much like other elements that emerged during writing, it unexpectedly blossomed. It was one of those magical moments where you simply let the story guide you, and before I knew it, Dogpool had become an integral part of the tale.
