Deadpool & Wolverine: Matthew Macfadyen on MCU Debriefing, "They Didn't"

As a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I was both excited and intrigued by the recent news that Matthew Macfadyen joined the cast of “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Paradox, a member of the Time Variance Authority. However, it seems that Macfadyen’s experience preparing for the role was vastly different from mine, as a dedicated fan who has followed the MCU closely for years.

Regardless of your familiarity with the Marvel Cinematic Universe before watching “Deadpool & Wolverine” this weekend, it’s safe to say that star Matthew Macfadyen knew far less than you did when he signed up for his role as Paradox. In an interview with ComicBook prior to the film’s release on Thursday, Macfadyen, along with co-star Emma Corrin, discussed their experience joining the Marvel universe. According to them, the process was surprisingly devoid of any required knowledge about the MCU. Instead, they approached it like any other acting job and relied solely on the script and instructions given on set.

The actors expressed confidence that someone else would handle continuity issues, as they didn’t foresee any mishaps. Director Shawn Levy wouldn’t tolerate unscripted lines that could introduce a new realm in the Marvel multiverse.

I hadn’t received any such detailed instructions, but I believe it’s all good with a chuckle. If something seemed off, don’t you think they would have pointed it out and mentioned, “By the way, this part needs adjusting”?

Corrin remarked, “You can completely trust Shawn. He won’t hesitate to let you know if you make a mistake.”

Levy, who previously worked with Ryan Reynolds on “Free Guy,” is being considered by some reports for several major Marvel films in the coming months.

As a dedicated gamer and fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’m beyond excited for Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine.” In this upcoming adventure, I, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), team up with the legendary Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). This film is guaranteed to rewrite the history of the Marvel universe.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the main producers for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Lou D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick serve as executive producers. The film is penned by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. “Deadpool & Wolverine” will make its exclusive theater debut on July 26th.
