Marvel announces Deadpool/Wolverine comic series

As a die-hard comic book fan and avid gamer, I’m totally pumped about Marvel Comics cashing in on the hype surrounding Deadpool and Wolverine by kicking off an epic series featuring everyone’s favorite smart-mouthed mercenary and the indestructible adamantium-clawed mutant. This exhilarating ongoing saga, titled Deadpool/Wolverine, is the brainchild of writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassara. You might remember them as the powerhouse duo that introduced us to the new X-Force during Krakoa’s reign over the X-Men universe. In that series, Wolverine was a central figure, with Deadpool occasionally making his mark too. The artwork for Deadpool/Wolverine #1 by Cassara hints at the same brutal and action-packed scenes we saw in their Marvel Cinatic Universe movie counterparts.

According to Percy’s interview with IGN, he and Josh developed a strong friendship during their collaboration on X-Force. When Josh moved on to X-Men, it was a bit of a tough transition for both, but the chance to work on a flagship title is hard to pass up. Josh did an incredible job on that series, and they continued to stay in touch, exchanging jokes and many Arnold Schwarzenegger GIFs. Percy even helped Josh’s wife find one of the rare 12-foot Home Depot skeletons for Halloween, so they’re both set to have an amazing celebration. In summary, they were both thrilled to reunite their team. It’s like they’re back on stage, performing together again with all the lights and fireworks.

Additionally, Percy shared that the project for Deadpool/Wolverine had been underway even prior to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in cinemas. While viewers of the film may discover plenty to appreciate, it’s essential to note that the comic adaptation stands as a distinct entity on its own.

Percy expressed, “To be honest, it seems like a continuation of what we’ve been doing all along,” he said. “Ever since 2017, with the ‘Wolverine: The Long Night’ podcast, I haven’t stopped crafting stories for Marvel’s Logan, and this is just another step in his storyline. However, it’s important to acknowledge that things have shifted for the mutants, and we’re embracing this new reality in the series.

Deadpool/Wolverine #1 goes on sale in January 2025.
