As a longtime fan of both Marvel and horror cinema, I find myself constantly amused by the playful banter between these iconic franchises and their stars. Jamie Lee Curtis’s recent jest about the MCU during Comic Con was just another fun moment that added flavor to the ongoing rivalry between these universes. However, it seems that the apology she later issued was unnecessary, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always thrived on good-natured ribbing and camaraderie.
After Jamie Lee Curtis, well-known for her horror roles, apologized for poking fun at the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a trivia game at Comic Con, Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool and Wolverine, stepped in to smooth things over via social media. In a humorous tweet, he downplayed the whole situation, attempting to move past any disagreement. During an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz on “Geeks or Posers?”, Curtis was asked about the phase of the MCU and she jokingly replied “Bad.” Although everyone laughed and Curtis seemed to enjoy it, she later appeared to receive some negative feedback and decided not to stick by her initial response.
Yesterday, Curtis expressed an apology on social media, mentioning that she’d contacted Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. She also promised not to criticize other projects in the future.
“Wait, is everyone expected to apologize for slamming Marvel post-Endgame?” Reynolds quipped in response to Curtis’s apology.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest blockbuster, titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Reynolds not only contributed to the script but also played a role. This movie included a few jibes directed at Marvel’s recent challenges in terms of creativity and box office performance.
I, Danielle, couldn’t resist taking a jab at “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” during my press tour for “Everything, Everywhere All at Once.” That movie, with its mind-blowing visuals and multiversal twins, went on to win several Academy Awards, one of which was rightfully mine.
In the Marvel Studios’ movie titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine will rewrite the storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. The film features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, along with the return of some familiar faces from previous Deadpool films such as Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford reappears as Pyro from the X-Men series, while Jennifer Garner takes on the role of Elektra Natchios.
In a nutshell, Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the producers for this project, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg taking on executive producer roles. The writing team for Deadpool & Wolverine includes Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. Lastly, the movie was premiered exclusively in theaters on July 26th.
