Deadpool & Wolverine: Ryan Reynolds Praises Hugh Jackman as "THE X-Man" in Heartfelt Tribute

As a long-time fan and admirer of both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness their exceptional chemistry and camaraderie unfold on and off-screen. From the days of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s been a thrilling ride that has spanned over two decades.

In the action-packed film, Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds paid tribute to Hugh Jackman by saying, “You’re the best Wolverine.” This comes as Marvel Studio’s R-rated movie, which Reynolds tirelessly worked to bring Jackman back for after his retirement in 2017’s Logan, has broken records this weekend. The film, now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with a global box office of $1.14 billion, earned Reynolds great admiration for Jackman, whom he called “THE X-Man” in a heartfelt social media post.

On August 14th, 2022, @RealHughJackman pulled over to talk to me. He had been having a tough week – he was ill with the flu, had two flat tires, and some thoughtless person had vandalized his home by egging it. However, what followed happened quickly. He informed me that he wanted to revive The Wolverine, which he later did. Furthermore, he finally donned the famous yellow suit.

Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, who took on the development of Deadpool 3 under Marvel Studios following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, admitted they were experiencing significant pressure, fretting about how to integrate these characters into the MCU. They also had concerns about keeping their secret characters a secret, along with managing numerous complex elements. However, when Ryan Reynolds donned the suit on set, everyone sensed that something extraordinary was unfolding. In that moment, I recall thinking everything would turn out just fine.

15 years after Hugh Jackman and Reynolds played roles opposite each other in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009), which was produced by Fox, and over 20 years since Jackman donned the black leather for the first time as the mutant with razor claws in “X-Men” (2000,) they both entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. This decision came from Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and producer, who requested that they wear costumes inspired by the comics.

For several months of filming and what seemed like an eternity of editing and post-production, I had the privilege to observe WOLVERINE up close. My dear friend and favorite actor, Reynolds, was there to guide me through it all. It’s possible to hold two beliefs: a) I occasionally indulge in too much sugar, and b) I can admire him as a fan while also cherishing our friendship at the same time.

I clearly remember my encounter with Jackman at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney during the filming of the X-Men spinoff, where he brought Wolverine to life. Stepping onto set as a supporting actor, I was nothing compared to the established movie star that Jackman was. Joining midway through production felt much like starting a new school, and I was a bundle of nerves.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for this extraordinary individual who embodies thoughtfulness, kindness, and elegance like no other. This man would go to any length for those he cherishes, even those he’s just met. In the magical world of Deadpool and Wolverine, Hugh didn’t simply fulfill the dreams of Wolverine enthusiasts; he brought my dreams to life as well. To me, he is the epitome of an X-Man.

As a gamer, I wrapped up my post using the hashtag “#TilYoure90”, symbolizing the line delivered by Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool when addressing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine: “Fox took him out. Disney revived him. They’ll make him keep going till he turns 90.”

As a gamer, I can’t help but reminisce about the good old days of Marvel movies, where Deadpool and Wolverine played their part in bidding adieu to the pre-MCU era. This era was home to the iconic Blade trilogy featuring Wesley Snipes, the 2003 Daredevil and its sequel Elektra with Jennifer Garner wielding her sais, the Fantastic Four films starring Chris Evans, and Channing Tatum’s aborted X-Men spinoff, Gambit.
