As a long-time fan of Death in Paradise who has eagerly anticipated each new season like a child waiting for Christmas, I am absolutely thrilled to learn that this year’s festive installment will not only bring us the annual dose of tropical mystery and intrigue but also introduce a brand new lead detective. The arrival of DI Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, promises a fresh perspective on Saint Marie’s crime-solving exploits, and I can hardly contain my excitement.
This year’s Christmas celebration promises to be twice as exciting for Death in Paradise enthusiasts, as not only does the series’ traditional holiday special make its appearance on our screens, but we will also welcome a fresh lead detective into the mix.
Following Ralf Little’s character Neville departing at the conclusion of season 13, the police department on Saint Marie is searching for a new recruit. This upcoming holiday season will introduce Don Gilet’s latest character, DI Mervin Wilson, who is poised to fill the vacancy.
Luckily for the fans, the wait for that moment won’t be prolonged anymore, as the official release date and time have been set and announced in the schedule.
The Christmas special episode of Death in Paradise this year will be broadcasted at 8:30 PM on Sunday, 22nd December, both on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. So, don’t forget to save the date!
This installment arrives conveniently for enthusiasts of the Paradise series, as a fresh spin-off titled “Return to Paradise” has recently premiered, while a festive special for the franchise’s additional spin-off, “Beyond Paradise,” is scheduled too.
Initially, when it was disclosed that Gilet’s character Mervin would be joining Saint Marie, it was made clear that he wasn’t overjoyed about his new environment. This sentiment seems to echo the experiences of some previous detectives on the show as well.
For the upcoming Christmas special, Gilet will share the screen with familiar faces such as Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine, and Danny John-Jules who are set to return.
Everyone is anticipated to return for the upcoming 14th season of the show, which is set to premiere shortly following the special, ushering viewers into the New Year.
