Death in Paradise: Star Don Gilet Talks Return After Villain Role

Viewers of Death in Paradise might recall actor Don Warrington, who played DI Mervyn Wilson, from an earlier episode. In this instance, it’s fair to say that his character wasn’t portrayed as a hero.

2024 saw Gilet take on the lead role for the popular BBC series, a position he had been unveiled for back in May. Interestingly, this wasn’t his first appearance; he starred in season 4 episode Stab in the Dark. In this episode, his character Andre Morgan was eventually exposed as the murderer following some clever detective work by DI Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall.

Currently, the creator of the latest detective inspector has disclosed that fans expressed some displeasure about the activities of his initial character.

On The Graham Norton Show, when asked about the number of individuals Andre allegedly killed in that particular episode, I candidly admitted that I’m not sure, as it’s quite a challenging question. However, it’s important to note that there was indeed an animal involved in the storyline.

It’s as if you didn’t notice that [my character] is hunting and killing animals. I take my dog for a walk on a leash, return with the leash, and yet I’ve been marked as a murderer on the map!

Speaking about the audience’s unfavorable response to his character’s lethal actions, Gilet explained: “They get caught up in the story, and it serves as an escape for them.
