Death in Paradise star Ralf Little’s first major acting role since exit confirmed

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the casting of Ralf Little in The Flaw is a masterstroke. Known for his calm and collected detective work on Death in Paradise, Little’s departure from the sunny shores left many fans bereft. But fear not, as this new role promises to be a far cry from the idyllic island setting of the cosy crime drama.

Following his emotional exit from the sun-kissed beaches of BBC’s Death in Paradise, it has now been made official that Ralf Little will take on a new acting role.

Fans of the cozy island-based crime drama recognize Detective Neville Parker, but now it’s clear that he’s moving on to different roles, as he has been confirmed to appear in a new dystopian thriller titled “The Flaw.

The movie marks the first directorial effort by Theophilos Papastylianos, who is at present working on its production in Athens.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Little will share screen time with Danny John-Jules again, this time in the series The Flaw, where they both appear.

In the upcoming film, David Dawson from “My Policeman”, Arthur McBain known for his work in “Napoleon”, and Angela Brouskou, a seasoned Greek theater director, will all make an appearance, taking on prominent roles within the cast.

Drawing inspiration from the 1965 novel penned by Antonis Samarakis, this renowned piece of literature has found its way into more than 30 different languages worldwide. Its rich content delves into topics such as government suppression, the essence of democracy, and the distribution of power.

As per Deadline’s summary of the upcoming movie, it is set in a world ruled by an oppressive regime and centers around a relentless Inspector named Dawson. He receives instructions from the Elite Service to meticulously execute a methodical plan aimed at proving a Defendant, McBain, is indeed culpable.

However, as the questioning progresses, he begins to recognize that not just the plan, but also the system governing it, has its flaws.

Samarkis’ most renowned piece of writing is undoubtedly the one, which later garnered the highly respected 1970 Grand Prix de Litterature Policière award in France.

According to the summary, a man is unexpectedly taken away from his coffee break at the Cafe Sport by two representatives of the government, but it remains unclear as to what specific crime they believe he has committed, and it seems that he himself is equally clueless about the allegations against him.

Here’s what unfolds next: A road trip to Special Branch Headquarters, where he’ll likely face questioning.

As they draw near to their destination, both the oppressed and the oppressor confront their most profound human emotions, engaged in a tense battle of mental prowess.

The story gradually reveals its secrets, and so do its principal characters. A blend of suspenseful thriller and biting political satire, ‘The Flaw’ remains just as potent today as it was upon its initial release in 1965, eerily presaging the military dictatorship that would seize power in Greece just two years afterwards.

Although we’re still uncertain about the character Little will portray in the upcoming movie, it’s safe to say his role will likely deviate from the anxious, analytical detective persona he embodied on Death in Paradise for four seasons.

Earlier in the year, it was made public that Little would no longer be part of the show. Additionally, it was disclosed that Don Gilet, known for his roles in EastEnders and Sherwood, will assume the role of Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson in the upcoming series.

Following his exit from Death in Paradise, Little has made a return to our TV screens with Will & Ralf Should Know Better. However, it’s worth noting that The Flaw marks his most significant acting role since parting ways with the BBC series – what an exhilarating prospect!
