Death Note Creator Drops Bombshell Misa Art – What’s Next?

In terms of prominent anime series worldwide, Death Note continues to be one of the most impactful. With its narrative centered around a psychological journey experienced by Light Yagami upon finding a deadly notebook, it has spawned multiple live-action versions and even a continuation. Although no further tales featuring Ryuuk and his Shinigami companions have been officially announced in the manga realm, series creator Takeshi Obata keeps revisiting their universe. Recently, Obata unveiled fresh artwork of Misa, hinting that he might not be done exploring the Death Note universe yet.

In Japan, it’s common to see temporary anime stores known as “pop-ups,” where popular series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, and others have the opportunity to introduce fresh merchandise and exclusive content to delight their loyal fans. Although the original manga of Death Note wrapped up in 2006, its influence continues to resonate within the anime community today. To commemorate the upcoming opening of a new pop-up store scheduled for March 19th in Japan, the series illustrator Takeshi Obata has unveiled a fresh interpretation of Misa’s character, whose dramatic ending served to advance Light’s ambitions even further.

The Death Note Sequel That Hasn’t Been Animated

Previously discussed, the original creators indeed produced a sequel for Death Note, but it may not have been as anticipated by many. Instead of reincarnating Light, Ryuk chose another high school student, Minoru Tanaka, to utilize the Death Note. Unlike Kira who aimed to eliminate criminals worldwide, Minoru seeks to exploit the notebook for personal gain rather than pursuing a similar path.

In a sequence of brilliant maneuvers, Tanaka amasses an enormous fortune by trading the Death Note with the U.S. However, Minoru meets the same end as Light, as Ryuk eventually claims his life. Given that this is a standalone tale, it could be challenging to expand this Death Note sequel into a complete television series; however, a movie could potentially capture its concise narrative on screen.

Death Note’s Future

Lately, I’ve witnessed an unexpected wave of excitement surrounding the release of a Death Note video game titled “Death Note: Killer Within.” This captivating title has swept across platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Despite its distinct visual departure from the original, it underscores the enduring passion among fans eager to revisit the tale of Light.

2022 saw the news that the Duffer Brothers, creators of “Stranger Things,” were in the process of creating a fresh live-action version of “Death Note” for Netflix. With writer Halia Abdel-Megui involved, there’s been little update on the potential series which aims to redefine Light’s journey for modern audiences. Keep an eye out, as we at egmr.ru will inform you if any more information surfaces.
