Death Stranding 2 Development Has Hideo Kojima Feeling Exhausted

The continuous progress of “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” finds director Hideo Kojima expressing his fatigue, a sentiment that seems particularly relevant given the current workload at Kojima Productions. Not only are they striving to finish Death Stranding 2, scheduled for release in late 2025, but they’re also managing two other projects titled “OD” and “Physint”. With so many tasks underway simultaneously, Kojima has shared his feelings of exhaustion.

Through a string of updates on X, Kojima shared some behind-the-scenes info about the ongoing creation of Death Stranding 2. He mentioned that the project has moved into the “crunch” period, meaning he’s juggling several tasks simultaneously. Kojima admitted that this phase is always challenging and exhausting for him, both physically and mentally.

Kojima stated that the most challenging phase in game creation, often referred to as ‘crunch time,’ is both physically and mentally taxing. Besides recording Japanese voices and mixing sounds, there’s a mountain of additional tasks such as writing comments, explanations, essays, interviews, discussions, and non-game work. It’s incredibly tough, he added.

Following the statement, Kojima received numerous messages of support from fans, urging the director to prioritize his own wellbeing. Some fans even hinted that Death Stranding 2 was nearing completion, suggesting that Kojima wouldn’t have to be in the development stage for much longer. In response, Kojima mentioned watching a movie after a tiring day at work, which left him feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, providing a temporary break from working on Death Stranding 2.

At this moment, we don’t know exactly when Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will come out, but it’s expected to hit stores in 2025. Upon its release, it will first be available only on PlayStation 5 systems.
