Hideo Kojima’s work on the upcoming trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is progressing as he prepares for a special panel at SXSW 2025. Following several hints, the studio head and game director has disclosed that they are in the final stages of post-production.
In his latest tweet, he elaborated on the differences in his editing approach between this new trailer and the previous one. Unlike the former, which was built around several cutscenes, the initial version of this trailer had a more rudimentary storyline and soundtrack sketched out by Kojima. He then utilized that as a foundation to create a preliminary edit, which in turn shaped the final arrangement of the music.
Instead of him, the recent trailer is structured around music, but given his reduced time for hands-on editing (possibly due to a continuous crunch for the project), he’s been putting it together mentally – during travels and journeys – before finally arranging it on the actual editing platform.
At first, we make our edits instinctively, according to the sounds. Later, we refine these cuts using a more thoughtful process, considering factors like story continuity, deceiving the audience, and smoothing out transitions.
It’s uncertain if we’ll get a specific release date, but since Kojima mentioned an announcement for the release of the action-adventure game is due this year, it’s possible we might find out then. Additionally, there’s anticipation that the SXSW panel could showcase more gameplay, perhaps even introducing new features.
Keep an eye out for new developments on March 9th. The anticipated sequel, titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach“, is set to debut this year exclusively on PlayStation 5.
Previously, our trailer followed a series of cutscenes. This time, I’ve decided to plan it more thoroughly. So, I drafted a simple storyline outline, then commissioned a preliminary soundtrack. To get started…
