After wrapping up the development of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima Productions will move into a new stage or period, which user Genki_JPN explains as “phase 2”, following the commencement of work on OD and Physint projects.
It’s still unclear what Kojima means by “phase 2,” but he’s expressed uncertainty about his future once work on Physint is finished. According to Genki_JPN, Kojima might create another game, venture into filmmaking, or even produce anime during the studio’s next phase.
Speaking as a dedicated fan, I’d like to share some insights about the initial phase of Kojima Productions, as explained by Hideo Kojima himself. This phase was essentially a creative period for the studio, where they developed and introduced new intellectual properties (IPs). The vision was to nurture these creations, expand upon them, and ultimately achieve a multi-platform launch.
It’s important to note that Kojima Productions remains an independent entity, which means that Hideo Kojima must establish connections with various parties to determine what our next exciting project will be.
Back in February 2024, the announcement was made for a new stealth game titled Physint. This game is being led by Hideo Kojima and developed by Kojima Productions. Kojima has referred to it as an “innovative action espionage game for the next generation.” It’s worth noting that the team will only begin full development on the game after the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
Kojima Productions will fully dive into creating Death Stranding 2, as previously stated in February. With nearly three decades of close partnership with Sony, we’ve honed our skills in the espionage genre together. Moreover, Sony isn’t just about video games; they also produce music and movies. This collaboration promises to be robust and impactful.
In exactly two years, I’ll be marking the 40th year of my gaming production journey. I feel certain that this project will represent the pinnacle of my career accomplishments.
In the course of his collaboration with Sony on “Physint”, Kojima is simultaneously working with Microsoft on a horror game known as “OD”. This project was unveiled in December 2023, and it’s exclusive to Xbox. The announcement was made during The Game Awards 2023, accompanied by a trailer. As of now, not much information has been disclosed about “OD”. However, we do have some details: it will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, and it will leverage Microsoft’s cloud technology.
True to the style of Hideo Kojima, the game titled OD will boast actual performers portraying in-game characters. Among these are Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.
As a gamer eagerly awaiting Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, I’ve been keeping tabs on its progress. Interestingly, in January, Hideo Kojima shared some challenges his team encountered during the development of OD and Physint due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Despite these hurdles, he remains hopeful that we can get back to work on both titles this year.
Until then, “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” will be releasing on June 26 for PS5. Learn more about the Japanese bokka couriers who inspired the gameplay of “Death Stranding,” as they are set to appear in the upcoming sequel.

As a dedicated fan, I’m sharing what Hideo Kojima mentioned about the initial phase of his work: a significant part was devoted to crafting a fresh Intellectual Property (IP), expanding it, and subsequently making it accessible across multiple platforms. Given that Kojima Productions functions as an independent studio with limited resources, he often needs to secure contracts for future projects while simultaneously working on the current ones.
