If you’ve been keeping up with the latest sneak peeks of Kojima Productions’ “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, you might have spotted some resemblances to Hideo Kojima’s famous “Metal Gear Solid” series. Interestingly, the former seems to have taken on a greater emphasis on action, reflecting its transformation into something more akin to the celebrated stealth series, following feedback from fans.
Instead, Kojima considers the sequel as an upgraded version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. As he expressed in an interview with Edge (issue 411, according to GamesRadar’s transcription), he felt the same way while playing the game himself.
Introduced in 2015, this game received widespread praise for its stealth sandbox gameplay. Although it doesn’t involve soaring through oil roads to lands like Australia, creator Kojima describes revisiting the DHV Magellan as providing “a similar sense of nostalgia as returning to the Mother Base in Metal Gear.” The term “Mother Base” refers to a location within the game that players could customize and outfit with various personnel throughout their playthrough.
It’s unclear if Death Stranding 2: On the Beach offers the same level of customization, but throughout the game, you can enter Private Rooms to participate in VR Challenges. The publication suggests that these challenges share a similar atmosphere with the VR Missions from Metal Gear Solid, even incorporating some familiar sound cues.
Further updates are expected soon, but rest assured they’ll come swiftly. The release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set for June 26th, marking its readiness for PS5.
