Hideo Kojima, director of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, has shared that there are no present plans for any episodic post-release downloadable content (DLC) for the game. During a recent episode of his radio show, as reported by user naven0m, Kojime expressed his viewpoint that episodic DLC is an outdated idea.
Although no specific plans for post-release downloadable content (DLC) have been announced, Kojima Studios has confirmed that they will continue providing updates for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach following its release on June 26, to enhance the game and address any potential bugs. He didn’t rule out the possibility of post-launch content entirely, but expressed uncertainty about it at this time.
Regarding DLC, Kojima stated, “At the moment, we don’t have any specific plans.” He added, “It seems like additional content after launch isn’t as popular these days, but who knows? In the past, we frequently added post-launch content. However, for now, it’s uncertain if we’ll follow that pattern again. After the game’s release in June, we’ll focus on fixing any bugs that arise and enhancing the overall gameplay experience. We might also introduce new elements that weren’t present in the original game. Time will tell.
One intriguing tidbit shared by Kojima about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is that the character Sam Porter Bridges was initially designed to have his hair grow throughout the game. According to Kojima, the initial idea was for Sam to begin with shorter hair which would gradually grow longer. However, due to Norman Reedus’ actual hair, this feature was eventually dropped from the game.
Initially, Kojima had proposed that he would have the character’s hair cut. The idea was for him to let his own beard grow and then trim it himself. We even created a system for this in the game. As you continue playing, his hair grows naturally – so if you prefer him with long hair, you can simply carry on playing without any changes. Alternatively, you could stand in front of a mirror and manually adjust his beard length or even dye his hair. However, Norman Reedus is quite popular, and when we considered allowing different hair colors like blond or red, we realized there were so many possibilities.
In the spirit of Death Stranding, I’ve noticed that once given the option to customize outfits, people often gravitate towards gold or silver colors, creating quite a vibrant spectacle reminiscent of Osaka’s flamboyant fashion. And when this occurs, it’s hard not to think, “Well, this is Norman we’re talking about…” If it were just a digital avatar, it might have worked, but in our case, the system for color changes was ultimately scrapped. There was even a possibility of him sporting blonde hair – yes, even Norman could have gone blonde! We did indeed develop a system to alter his hair color.
In the very same radio broadcast, Kojima shared an unexpected surge of interest – people eagerly wanting to get scanned for inclusion in “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”. Unfortunately, due to overwhelming demand, he was forced to turn away nearly half of them.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming exclusively to PS5 on June 26.
