Hideo Kojima has officially announced that the job which served as the basis for the gameplay in Death Stranding, known as the Japanese bokka, will make a prominent appearance in the upcoming sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. During his radio broadcast (translation courtesy of Genki), Kojima further disclosed that one of the special pre-order incentives for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be a Bokka Skeleton exoskeleton.
In the game Death Stranding, Sam Porter Bridges’ delivery equipment is modeled after a traditional Japanese courier’s, known as a “bokka.” These couriers specialize in delivering goods to challenging or remote locations such as mountain huts that are hard to access. The bokka often use a wooden frame to carry their supplies for these deliveries.
According to Genki’s observation, a bokka’s wooden carrying frame is designed for transporting heavy goods, often exceeding 100 kg, during their challenging and lengthy transportation journeys.
Previously, Kojima mentioned that the progress on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was going smoothly. More recently, through his radio show, he shared that the game is nearly finished, being approximately 95% complete. In terms of a 24-hour cycle, Kojima likened the current state of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach to being 10 o’clock at night (22:00 on a 24-hour clock), implying that midnight (12:00) represents the end of development.
Speaking about the advancements in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima announced back in March that all audio mixing and ADR tasks were fully accomplished. In a social media update, he praised the team at Molinare in London for their efforts, and expressed joy over concluding approximately 3 years of hard work.
Kojima announced that he completed sound mixing at Molinare in London after approximately 3 years, which included ADR sessions. He expressed his gratitude and raised a virtual glass to his sound team and colleagues at Molinare.
In addition, it has been disclosed that in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, there will be challenging boss battles. However, players who prefer to concentrate more on the game’s storyline can opt to bypass these fights by choosing a “clear” option. This means they can progress without needing to defeat the boss directly.
Death Stranding 2: On the Shore, in Progress for PS5
The upcoming game, tentatively titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Shore,” is being developed for the PlayStation 5. The release date is set for January 26th. Kojima Productions has shared information about the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, granting early access to the game for buyers, up to 48 hours before its official launch. For a closer look at the $230 Collector’s Edition, refer to the trailer released in March. The Collector’s Edition comes with an array of exclusive items such as a 15-inch Magellan Man figurine, a 3-inch Dollman figure, and a signed letter from Kojima himself.
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that the initial release of “Death Stranding” has experienced a significant resurgence in interest. In fact, the developers announced in March that over 20 million gamers have already enjoyed playing this game.
