Hideo Kojima, renowned figure in the gaming industry, truly deserves his fame. He played a significant role in shaping the popular video game franchise Metal Gear Solid and later established his own company, Kojima Productions. Despite being relatively fresh compared to many other global game developers, Kojima Productions has left an impact, particularly with its unique title Death Stranding. Already slated for a live-action film, Kojima added excitement by announcing that the dystopian series will also be developed into an anime.
During a conversation with Vogue Japan, Kojima revealed details about Death Stranding’s future in animation and live-action films. He is also collaborating with A24 for a live-action film adaptation of “DEATH STRANDING”. While discussing game adaptations such as “The Last of Us” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, Kojima expressed his desire to create a unique cinematic experience with “DEATH STRANDING”. He aims to produce a film that showcases the best of both the world of games and cinema, one that could potentially win accolades at prestigious film festivals like Cannes and Venice. Simultaneously, they are also working on an anime adaptation of Death Stranding.
Death Stranding’s Future
In a month from now, the highly anticipated sequel to the eccentric game, titled “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach,” is set to be released by Kojima Productions on June 26th. During the same interview, Hideo Kojima provided further insights about the future of this Norman Reedus-led project. He explained that they are working on a sequel, not only for the game but also to extend its intellectual property across various platforms such as movies, anime, TV dramas, and so forth. Essentially, their aim is to broaden the scope of the “Death Stranding” game franchise into other media forms, which marks the next phase of their development.
At the moment, it’s unclear what specific aspects the anime adaptation will focus on. It might retell the original story, or delve deeper into various characters and stories found within the Death Stranding universe. So far, no studio has been assigned to this project, but there are several talented animation studios that could bring Kojima’s latest world to animated life.
The Death Stranding Movie Developments
Previously announced, Michael Sarnoski is set to pen and direct A24’s upcoming movie, “Death Stranding.” Known for successful films like “A Quiet Place: Day One” and “Pig,” which have been praised by both critics and viewers, Sarnoski is a promising addition to the project. However, as with many anime productions, a release date for this movie has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for updates about “Death Stranding.
