Deliver At All Costs: A Wild Ride with Unpredictable Twists!

As Grand Theft Auto 6 is eagerly anticipated worldwide, some smaller game developers appear to be drawing inspiration from the roots of Rockstar’s open-world powerhouse.

In the same vein as how The Precinct successfully demonstrated that an isometric crime story could be effective, Deliver At All Costs follows suit by presenting a similar format, but with a focus on wild and chaotic 1950s freight transportation.

Although the presentation has a strong resemblance to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, it seems reminiscent of the Mafia series. The game offers around 20 custom-made missions within an open world environment, which functions more as a backdrop than a rich and engaging space for exploration.

In an unexpected twist, the storyline thrusts you into the shoes of Winston Green, a charming yet enigmatic former engineer, now working in a common position at our local delivery company, We Deliver, where things are anything but ordinary.

Initially, this series kicks off as a lighthearted office comedy, however, as it progresses for approximately 10 hours, it morphs into an unusual science fiction saga that might stretch its limitations. The production is decent, but unfortunately, the creator lacks the financial resources to fully materialize their concept in this instance.

Nevertheless, this game offers the structure for an entertaining sequence of wacky tasks, each featuring distinctive quirks and mechanisms. At some point, you’ll find yourself transporting balloons across the world, the trail of helium from your truck enabling you to physically hover above the buildings below; in another instance, you’ll be required to navigate through fish markets to feed a colossal marlin before it becomes enraged.

In an extraordinary manner, physics plays a significant role; one task involves hauling melons such that if you brake too hastily, they spill from your vehicle. Soon enough, you comprehend that the environment is incredibly fragile, making it wiser to pass through buildings instead of circumnavigating them.

In most cases, there are few penalties for damaging your vehicle or making errors in the game, as numerous checkpoints are scattered around. This reduces aggravation but eliminates tension, making it seem that the gravity of transporting nuclear bombs is never truly apparent.

Additionally complicating the situation is that certain tasks surpass others in quality. A mandatory stealth segment lacks significant impact, while another task involving scaring high-ranking executives in a limo fails to deliver.

However, we commend the overall innovation, and it’s refreshing to engage with a game whose concepts are continually evolving instead of repetitively reused.

It’s unfortunate that there isn’t more innovative content within the play area: beyond adding a few extra toys and a few extra missions, the wide-open environment mainly serves as an aesthetically pleasing setting.

Instead of smoothly transitioning from one district to another, you’ll encounter a design where you frequently move in and out of different areas, which may give a disjointed feeling. While this isn’t a major issue, it can make the game world seem less cohesive and immersive, as if it’s not a true location you inhabit.

Indeed, the music and artistry within this game are delightful, showcasing obvious dedication and care. Subtle touches such as donning a raincoat during inclement weather lend an authentic charm to the overall experience, adding a touch of realism that we found appealing.
