Content warning: This story discusses suicide

Demi Lovato is reflecting on a dark period in her childhood.

In her first directorial effort titled “Child Star“, she collaborates with other celebrities such as Drew Barrymore, Raven-Symoné, and Kenan Thompson from Saturday Night Live, reminiscing about their childhood years under the limelight. A sneak peek into this documentary was released on September 5, and Demi revealed a heartbreaking incident that occurred at her school in the trailer

“The popular girls signed a suicide petition,” she shared. “Saying that I should kill myself.”

Additionally, though the teaser was silent about providing more specifics, subsequently, the “Heart Attack” artist expanded on her experiences of being raised under public scrutiny alongside other former child performers

Demi notes later in the documentary trailer, released on September 17th, “There’s no guidebook for handling this industry so early in life.” She admits that she wouldn’t be where she is now if not for her past decisions. However, she also acknowledges that these choices came with a cost

In other parts of the trailer, Demi and Drew share stories about their past drug use. When asked by the host of “The Drew Barrymore Show” at what age Demi was initially offered drugs, Drew replied, “10 years old.”
