As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the unveiling of Brave New World within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This film introduces and reintroduces several key characters, marking a substantial expansion to the MCU’s pantheon. Among these newcomers is Harrison Ford, who takes on the role of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, succeeding the late William Hurt. What makes this transition particularly exciting is that it signifies the long-awaited comic book transformation of Ross into Red Hulk.
The transformation unfolds in a climactic showdown, where Ross dons the Red Hulk persona. However, the battle with Captain America proves to be too much, and Ross ultimately decides to surrender himself to the Raft super-prison. This selfless act opens up possibilities for future Red Hulk appearances within the MCU, keeping us on the edge of our seats in anticipation.
In “Captain America: Brave New World”, we’re introduced to the MCU’s Serpent Society, headed by the captivating Sidewinder (played by Giancarlo Esposito). This group persists by the film’s end, with Esposito expected to appear in future Marvel productions. Moreover, Ruth Bat-Seraph (portrayed by Shira Haas) joins the MCU for the first time, appearing as a previous Black Widow and President Ross’s security consultant – another significant inclusion in the growing roster of global heroes. Notably, Tim Blake Nelson reappears after a long hiatus as Samuel Sterns, last seen in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk”. Now fully transformed into the superintelligent Leader, complete with his distinctive oversized skull, Sterns endures the film’s events and delivers ominous warnings about potential future dangers, hinting at further involvement in the MCU.
Intriguingly, Eli Bradley (played by Elijah Richardson), whose debut in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” hinted at future appearances, is conspicuously missing from the movie. This is interesting given that his grandpa Isaiah (portrayed by Carl Lumbly) has a substantial role in the storyline.
