2021 is shaping up to be an exceptional year for Demon Slayer, as the initial installment of its climactic trilogy, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, will premiere in Japanese cinemas this summer and in North American theatres this fall. As enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Tanjiro and his Demon Slayer Corps’ battle against Muzan and his most powerful demonic lieutenants, Ufotable is re-releasing Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. This Japanese cinema classic, which remains the biggest anime film of all time, will be extended in theatres with a new segment titled “Rengoku nightmare.
The comeback of “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” in Japanese cinemas was planned from May 9th to May 22nd, drawing anime enthusiasts back into the fight that made this shonen series a global financial sensation worth hundreds of millions of dollars. During its run, the voice actor for Rengoku, Satoshi Hino, added to the excitement by providing special theater seat covers for participating venues during the re-release. The success of “Mugen Train’s” comeback has led many theaters to extend the screening time indefinitely, further demonstrating the massive impact Demon Slayer has made since its debut in the anime world. Now, not only is Hino back with the new covers but a chilling portrayal of Rengoku has also appeared.

The hit movie “Mugen Train” and the latest “seat jacks” featuring Rengoku are set to run for a longer duration in cinemas. The official Demon Slayer social media account announced that some theaters will continue showing these screenings past May 23rd. The length and screens may differ among theaters, so for specific details, please refer to each theater’s individual schedule on their official websites.
Rengoku, the Fire Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, was a significant character in the movie “Mugen Train.” Regrettably, his tale didn’t conclude as numerous shonen series enthusiasts had anticipated. In his battle against one of the world’s most powerful demons, Akaza, Rengoku’s exceptional sword skills weren’t sufficient to ensure his survival. Consequently, Tanjiro learned a hard lesson in the film. The anime “Demon Slayer” plans to release more films titled “Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village” and “Demon Slayer: Hashira Training,” but these are compilation films. With the upcoming release of the Infinity Castle movies, it will be intriguing to see if they can surpass the success of “Mugen Train” at the box office.
What Happens in Infinity Castle?
Although it’s likely that the third Demon Slayer film won’t be released for several years, fans who have read the manga know how Tanjiro, Nezuko, and their companions’ story concludes. The creator Koyoharu Gotouge concluded the manga in 2020, and since then, there’s been no indication of a return to this universe with a sequel or spin-off. Given the events of the shonen series, it appears that the anime adaptation is planning to go out with a powerful conclusion.
