Demon Slayer: Infinity Train Film Is the Highest-Grossing Anime Film of All Time

Ufotable has earned acclaim for its exceptional animation, seamless action sequences, and fight choreography that’s second to none. However, the success of Demon Slayer goes beyond these elements. The series resonates deeply with Japanese audiences not only due to its captivating narrative but also because it immerses viewers in rich Japanese culture and folklore. Following the anime’s release, Demon Slayer gained massive popularity both domestically and globally. The Infinity Train film, released in 2020, continues to hold the title of highest-grossing anime film ever, raking in over 500 million dollars worldwide, surpassing the previous record held by Studio Ghibli’s classic Spirited Away.

The storyline revolves around Rengoku’s assignment to eliminate a demon responsible for vanishing travelers. Initially, he operates solo. However, Tanjiro and their companions eventually join him, offering assistance. A demon of the Upper Moon Six rank with an unusual Blood Demon Art was the offender. Although the Demon Slayers managed to vanquish the demon, they encountered a setback when an Upper Moon Two appeared on the scene. Unfortunately, Tanjiro and his comrades were neither prepared nor powerful enough to confront Akaza effectively.

Not only did the Hashiras previously vanquish the Twelve Kizuki, but none among them possessed the strength to confront the Upper Moons. Despite this, Rengoku remained resolute in his duty, always prioritizing the safety of the people. He accomplished his mission without a single casualty, an exceptional rarity in the realm of Demon Slayer. As announced on their official website, the re-release of these films beyond Japan will offer both subtitled and dubbed versions, and ticket sales commenced as early as April 30th.
