Demon Slayer Star Joins All You Need Is Kill for Epic Annecy Premiere!

The upcoming anime movie “All You Need Is Kill,” based on the novel that inspired the Tom Cruise film “Edge of Tomorrow,” has secured a prominent cast member from the hit anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” ahead of its debut at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Warner Bros. has been hinting at significant plans for Annecy 2022, promising glimpses into new animated series and films currently in development, as well as premieres for their upcoming anime projects.

All You Need Is Kill is set to make its exclusive debut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025, having been chosen among the Midnight Specials for this prestigious event. Over three days – June 9th, 12th, and 15th – festival attendees will get an early peek at the film, as these screenings mark its first public appearance. The main voice actors have also been revealed following the announcement of these special showings.

Who Stars In All You Need Is Kill?

According to a press statement from Warner Bros. Japan, the upcoming anime “All You Need Is Kill” will feature Ai Mikami (“Undead Lovers”, “Romance Battle Royale”) as the voice of the main character Rita. Rita is trapped in a dismal time loop that resets each time she perishes. In her initial statement about joining the project, Mikami expressed, “As someone who’s always been passionate about anime, being part of this production felt like a dream come true. Yet, I was also apprehensive because I hold anime in such high regard… These feelings mirrored Rita’s own doubts. However, on my first day of recording alongside Hanae, the voice actor for Keiji, I encountered an unusual moment where my apprehensions dissipated, and I felt a sense of liberation. I realized that portraying Rita as a voice actor is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Natsuki Hanae, known for voicing Tanjiro Kamado in “Demon Slayer”, will be joined by Mikami in the upcoming film, lending his voice to Keiji. This character becomes embroiled in Rita’s hardships. Hanae shared some insights about Keiji, saying, “At first glance, Keiji may appear as an ordinary young man. However, as he encounters death repeatedly on the battlefield, he undergoes transformation and growth. I aim to delicately express his despair, internal struggles, and eventual determination through my voice. One of the compelling aspects of the story revolves around Keiji’s evolving bond with Rita—a character he meets within the loop—and the burgeoning resilience that arises in him as he experiences the same battles again and again.

What to Know for All You Need Is Kill

All You Need Is Kill is a movie adaptation of an original novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which served as inspiration for Edge of Tomorrow. This film has been directed by Kenichiro Akimoto at STUDIO4°C, the same studio that produced popular anime releases such as Tekkonkinkreet and Children of the Sea. Warner Bros Japan is overseeing the production of this new movie, featuring Ai Mikami playing Rita and Natsuki Hanae portraying Keiji.
