Demon Slayer Star Natsuki Hanae Joins All You Need Is Kill for Annecy Premiere!

The upcoming anime film “All You Need Is Kill” is based on the original novel that served as inspiration for the Tom Cruise movie “Edge of Tomorrow.” This new production has recently secured a prominent cast member from the hit anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” ahead of its grand debut during this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Earlier this spring, Warner Bros. unveiled their ambitious plans for Annecy 2021, promising a sneak peek at upcoming animated series and films as well as premieres of new anime projects currently in development.

Who Stars In All You Need Is Kill?

According to a press release from Warner Bros. Japan, actress Ai Mikami, known for her roles in “Undead Lovers” and “Romance Battle Royale”, will be lending her voice to the main character Rita in the film “All You Need Is Kill”. In her own words, Mikami expressed her excitement about being part of this project, stating that it felt like a dream come true for an anime enthusiast. However, she also admitted feeling anxious about whether she was capable of delivering a satisfactory performance due to her deep-seated love for anime. Interestingly, these apprehensions mirrored Rita’s own feelings. However, on the first day of recording with Hanae, the voice actor of Keiji, Mikami experienced a unique moment where her anxieties seemed to dissipate, and she felt as though she could truly embody Rita as a voice actress.

In the upcoming film, Natsuki Hanae (known for his role as Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer) will be voicing Keiji alongside Mikami’s Rita. Hanae shared some insights about his character: “At first sight, Keiji may appear as an ordinary young man. However, as he repeatedly encounters death on a harsh battlefield, he undergoes transformation and growth. Through my voice acting, I aim to portray his despair, internal struggles, and eventual resilience. One of the captivating aspects of the story revolves around Keiji’s evolving bond with Rita, which he forms within the loop, and the burgeoning determination that arises in him as he experiences the same battles repeatedly.

Inspired by the original novel “All You Need Is Kill” penned by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (which later became the basis for the movie “Edge of Tomorrow”), this film is directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, from STUDIO4°C – a studio renowned for popular anime releases like Tekkonkinkreet and Children of the Sea. The production of this new film is being overseen by Warner Bros Japan, with Ai Mikami portraying Rita and Natsuki Hanae playing Keiji.
