As a long-time fan and admirer of Denzel Washington‘s illustrious career, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of seeing him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the third installment of Black Panther! With an Oscar under his belt and a plethora of iconic roles to his name, it’s no surprise that he would only accept projects from the best filmmakers.
It came as a surprise to many that the individual sharing the information about Ryan Coogler working on a third Black Panther film would be one of the most venerable actors in the entirety of Hollywood. Despite Marvel Studios not officially confirming another Black Panther movie following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it seems that Coogler is penning a third installment in the series, and he’s creating a role tailored for Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington.
Indeed, that’s accurate information. It seems Denzel Washington himself has stated that he plans to appear in Black Panther 3. However, it’s important to note that this is based on his own words, not a confirmed fact.
During an interview for “Gladiator II” on Australia’s Today show, Washington discussed his upcoming career plans. He confessed that he has only a few more roles left before he retires, and one of these is in the next Black Panther movie.
At this stage of my career, I’m focused on collaborating with exceptional filmmakers. I have limited time left to make movies, so I want to explore roles I haven’t tackled before. I played Othello at 22 and am about to reprise the role at 70. Following that, I’ve been discussing a project with Steve McQueen. Next, Ryan Cooler is penning a part for me in the upcoming Black Panther film. After that, I plan to take on the role of Othello again. Then, King Lear is next on my list. After all that, I intend to retire.

Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially declared the development or production of another Black Panther movie, it doesn’t rule out the possibility. Director Ryan Coogler is currently engaged in post-production for his upcoming Warner Bros. film Sinners, featuring his frequent collaborator (and Black Panther co-star) Michael B. Jordan.
Who Is Denzel Playing in Black Panther 3?
As a die-hard film fan, if the rumors are true that Washington will grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe before his retirement, it seems we might only get to see him in a single movie. Historically, such brief appearances by esteemed actors often signify a villainous role, much like Jeff Bridges in the first Iron Man or Cate Blanchett in Thor: Ragnarok.
If that’s true, it seems fitting that Delroy Lindo could embody the character of Reverend Achebe in another Black Panther film. This character originates from Christopher Priest’s renowned Black Panther series and is a politician who struck a bargain with the devil for power. This role would provide an excellent opportunity for Lindo to demonstrate his acting skills, much like he did in Training Day, albeit without the need for as much physicality as a villain like Killmonger might require.
In a different phrasing, it’s possible that Coogler isn’t making Washington play a villain in his Black Panther part. Given that “Secret Wars” is approaching, this could mean various versions of well-known characters are up for grabs. It’s plausible that Washington might be portraying an alternate T’Chaka, who could still be the Black Panther in his universe.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t wait to uncover more details about Black Panther 3 and Denzel Washington’s involvement, as this project has swiftly climbed to the top of my list of eagerly awaited Marvel productions.
