Denzel Washington’s Only Franchise Movie Explodes on Streaming—You Won’t Believe Why!

In a Denzel Washington-fronted trilogy, the top-rated movie is experiencing a surge in popularity online, two years post its release. The action-packed thriller has ascended the rankings on Prime Video, sparking anticipation among fans as they eagerly await the upcoming fourth and fifth installments in Washington’s unique film series.

In the United States, The Equalizer 3 holds the third spot on the Prime Video movie chart, standing tall above a list led by A Working Man starring Jason Statham. Furthermore, for three consecutive days, the third installment of The Equalizer has been Prime Video’s top film in Central and South America, highlighting its strong global appeal.

In simple terms, the third installment of “The Equalizer” series, where Denzel Washington once again collaborates with Antoine Fuqua (who also directed “Training Day”), has been highly appreciated by both critics and viewers. The sequel boasts impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 76% critical approval rating and a Popcornmeter score of 94%, setting new highs for the franchise. At the box office, it was a resounding success, earning $191.1 million against its production budget of $70 million, and is set to return in 2024.

In “The Equalizer 3,” Robert McCall, played by Denzel Washington, attempts to find peace in a new life in southern Italy. However, when he learns that friends he has made are being oppressed by the notorious crime group called the Camorra, he re-enters the fray. As the Camorra continue their reign of terror, including harassment and murder of innocent people, McCall takes it upon himself to liberate everyone from their grip. In this third installment, Washington reunites with his co-star from “Man on Fire,” who portrays Emma Collins, a CIA agent conducting her own investigation into the Camorra and their drug trafficking activities.

Denzel Washington Isn’t Done With The Equalizer Movies

Despite initial plans for The Equalizer 3 to serve as the closing chapter, the film’s impressive box office earnings and surging popularity on streaming platforms over the past two years have convinced Sony Pictures to persuade Denzel Washington to reprise his role. Washington, in a reflective tone, admitted, “‘I’ve come to understand that The Equalizer movies aren’t just for the audience, but they’re also for me. They need me to take down the bad guys. ‘We can’t do it, so you go do it.’ And I say, ‘Alright, I’ll do it! Just hold on a moment. I’ll be right back!’

Two more projects featuring Denzel Washington (from “The Equalizer”) are on his wish list before he retires from acting. These include a possible debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a Netflix film about Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, co-starring with director Antoine Fuqua, and a heist movie titled “Here Comes the Flood” alongside Robert Pattinson on Netflix. His next project will be another collaboration with Spike Lee, which is a modern take on Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller.

Fans can stream The Equalizer 3 on both Prime Video and Netflix.
