Deonna Purrazzo Names Dream AEW Match

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who’s seen it all, from the golden days of WWE to the indie scene’s explosive growth, I can confidently say that Deonna Purrazzo is a force to be reckoned with. Her journey in AEW has been nothing short of captivating, and her recent feud with Thunder Rosa was a testament to the grit and determination she brings into the ring.

Since joining AEW in early 2024, Deonna Purrazzo has left an impressive mark. Upon her arrival from TNA, her first program was with AEW Women’s World Champion and close friend “Timeless” Toni Storm. Although she didn’t manage to dethrone the three-time champion, her performance offered AEW fans a glimpse of her capabilities. As summer rolled in, she switched to playing a heel role following a betrayal of Thunder Rosa, who she had previously teamed up with. Their recent clash in a Texas Bullrope match was intense and brutal, ending with Rosa emerging victorious.

In her wrestling journey so far, she hasn’t encountered Mercedes Mon, the current TBS/NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. They both joined AEW around the same period, sparking excitement among fans who wanted to see them fight. With the abundance of talent in AEW right now, it seems inevitable that they’ll square off in the ring eventually.

Previously, we hadn’t met each other face-to-face. It was clear that we were acquainted, and if it was about watching “Raw” or “SmackDown,” or even working together as extras, we would greet each other. However, getting to know each other beyond that, sharing a dressing room, and wrestling against each other were experiences we hadn’t shared before. I see it as an item on my wish list to do so in the future.

As a devoted fan, if given the opportunity, my dream contest against Mercedes Mon would be a submission-only battle. Throughout our careers, we’ve both built our reputations as specialists in submissions. Her prowess has earned her championship titles worldwide, and I’m no stranger to them either. Such a collaboration, a submission-only match with Mercedes Mon, would be the ultimate fight for me. (h/t: Fightful)

At the upcoming AEW All In event, it will be Mon? squaring off against Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., an original member of AEW. The tension between these two women, representing different eras within AEW, has been steadily rising. When Baker made her comeback at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in June to confront the current champion, she had been sidelined for several months due to an injury. The turning point came when Mon? caught Baker off guard at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con by exchanging harsh words in front of the audience.
