*Warning – contains full spoilers for Dept. Q season 1*
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve found all nine episodes of the series Dept. Q streaming on Netflix! You’ll now get a chance to see Matthew Goode portray Carl Morck, the detective who is the heart of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s novels.
The action in the series has shifted from Copenhagen to Edinburgh, but Morck remains at the helm of a fresh unit investigating high-profile, unsolved crimes.
Or:
The city backdrop for this series has changed from Copenhagen to Edinburgh, with Morck leading a new team tasked with resolving cold, high-profile cases.
Or:
In this series, we find the storyline no longer taking place in Copenhagen, but instead unfolding in Edinburgh. However, Morck continues his role as head of a department focusing on unresolved, significant cases.
In the initial series, the narrative follows the events from Mercy, which is the inaugural book penned by Adler-Olsen. Nine additional novels of hers remain untouched in this adaptation process. However, speculations arise regarding whether the show plans to continue, delving further into Morck and their team’s investigations on new cases.
Read on for everything we know about Dept. Q season 2.
Will there be a Dept. Q season 2?

It remains uncertain if Department Q will continue with season 2, but considering the cliffhanger ending of the first season and the abundance of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Department Q novels still to be adapted, it seems likely that they plan to do so.
As expected, it seems that viewing figures will be the big determining factor.
Rest assured, we’ll provide updates as soon as we receive any new information about the future of Dept. Q on Netflix.
When would a potential Dept. Q season 2 be released?

The release date for Dept. Q season 2 hasn’t been announced yet, since the series hasn’t been officially confirmed for renewal.
It seems likely that we won’t see another season of it until as late as 2026 at the very least. Considering that they began filming the first season in early 2024, and released it about a year after that, mid-2025.
There’s a strong possibility that the release of new episodes may not happen before 2027, but rest assured, we’ll continue to provide updates on this page as soon as we receive more details.
Who would return to star in a potential Dept. Q season 2?

Should Department Q make a comeback, it’s highly likely that the core characters – Morck, Akram, and Rose – would also reappear, portrayed once more by actors Matthew Goode, Alexej Manvelov, and Leah Byrne.
It’s reasonable to anticipate that actor Jamie Sives will reappear in the next season, given that his character Hardy was last seen resuming active duty and reuniting with the team. Similarly, we can expect actresses Kate Dickie and Kelly Macdonald to return to their respective roles as well.
As a movie buff, I can’t help but notice that talented actors like Chloe Pirrie, Mark Bonnar, and Shirley Henderson might not reprise their roles next season, considering their characters seemed to have found closure within the season’s plotline.
You can find a full list of the stars we’d expect to return for a Dept. Q season 2 here:
- Matthew Goode as Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck
- Jamie Sives as Detective Chief Inspector James Hardy
- Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim
- Leah Byrne as Detective Constable Rose Dickson
- Kate Dickie as Detective Chief Superintendent Moira Jacobson
- Kelly Macdonald as Dr. Rachel Irving
