Derek Hough Reveals His & Julianne Hough’s Magical Harry Potter Cameo

As I delve into the lives of these enchanting individuals who once brought magic to our screens through the Harry Potter series, I am struck by their transformations since their days as Slytherins, Gryffindors, and everything in between. It’s fascinating how life after Hogwarts has been just as captivating for them!

Derek Hough and Julianne Hough were lucky enough to receive Hogwarts acceptance letters.

Twenty-three years have passed since the debut of the first “Harry Potter” movie, specifically “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” and now Derek is reminiscing about the time he and his sister spent working as extras on that 2001 film.

He posted on Instagram Dec. 4 that he and @juleshough were part of the first Harry Potter movie. He also included a video with some of their memorable scenes from the film. They spent three months together in the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, and even the Quidditch pitch!

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I was thrilled beyond words to be included in such an iconic event. Now, let me share a little secret – while rummaging around on set one day, I might have inadvertently picked up a Ravenclaw robe, scarf, tie, and a few choice silverware pieces. But don’t worry, my lips are sealed; our little secret is safe with me!

Besides his remarks, it’s worth noting that on occasion, just like Tom Felton’s character Draco Malfoy, Derek would take his place during setup shots because they both share the same blonde hair.

Even after twenty years, viewers were astonished to find out that Derek and Julianne played the magical siblings in the movie, a fact they hadn’t suspected before.

“I can’t believe I didn’t spot Julianne in that scene!” commented one viewer. Another chimed in, “Had no idea! That’s a fun detail I love!

One fan joked, “You really have lived a hundred lives.”

For some people, Derek’s post might have felt like using “alohomora” on an old memory. This is because the former contestants of “Dancing With the Stars” have shared their experiences working on the film in the past, with Julianne Hough admitting that she had a small crush on Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter.

36-year-old mentioned in 2017 to People that she handed over a love letter and a Beanie Baby for Valentine’s Day. However, since I was only an extra, someone else delivered it to the person she had feelings for. She isn’t sure if he ever received it.

Besides, she remembered overindulging on several hearty English breakfasts during filming at the Great Hall, ensuring consistency. However, she soon wished she hadn’t made that choice.

“It was the worst,” she added. “I remember being so sick.”

As for Derek, he appeared to have the opposite problem when it came to food on set.

In 2018, he shared with Entertainment Weekly that as a youngster, it was thrilling to peek behind the curtains, yet we’d often find ourselves there for hours on end, which made us quite hungry. He added that they had plenty of food in the Great Hall, but unfortunately, it was all plastic and not edible, leaving us feeling rather let down.

Daniel Radcliffe, who is best known for his iconic role as Harry Potter, remains deeply appreciative of the opportunities that character opened up for him. However, he’s been diligently working to distance himself from the stereotype of a child star. This effort began with his bold choices in theater, starting with his revealing role in Equus in 2007. He followed this up with a more light-hearted production, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, in 2011. Over the years, he’s been switching between theater (The Cripple of Inishmaan, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) and film (The Woman in Black, Victor Frankenstein), focusing on dramatic or absurd roles.

Without a doubt, if there’s some witty humor to be discovered, Radcliffe embraces it wholeheartedly. This is evident whether he’s on TV portraying a morphine-dependent physician in A Young Doctor’s Notebook or a low-ranking angel trying to prevent God from destroying the world in Miracle Workers, or even playing a flatulent corpse in Swiss Army Man (2016). He was performing Samuel Beckett’s Endgame at the Old Vic in London when live theater and other activities were halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, he has appeared as the antagonist alongside Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in their 2022 romantic comedy The Lost City, and portrayed musician “Weird Al” Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a humorous biographical film for The Roku Channel.

Since 2010, Radcliffe has been sober and has openly shared about his past struggles with excessive drinking. This occurred around the time when the Harry Potter series was wrapping up, and as he found himself more renowned than he ever imagined, he felt anxious about his future life choices.

He mentioned during an interview on Off Camera With Sam Jones in 2019, “For me, the most effective method to stop noticing when I’m being observed is by getting extremely intoxicated.

As the night wears on and I find myself tipsy, it occurs to me, “Wow, it seems like more folks are tuning in now since I’m getting pretty hammered. Guess I oughta keep pouring to drown out that attention a bit more.

Daniel Radcliffe has been with actress Erin Darke since they worked together on the 2013 film “Kill Your Darlings.” In this production, he portrayed poet Alan Ginsberg. Recently, a representative for Radcliffe confirmed to TopMob News that the pair is welcoming their first child in March.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this: Born and raised in Paris and Oxfordshire, I only had a handful of school plays under my belt when I was offered the role of Hermione Granger, my first professional acting job. After completing the Harry Potter series, I balanced my time between studying English literature at Brown University (graduating in 2014) and starring in independent films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring. In the latter, I stepped out of the rule-abiding Hermione character, playing a part in a gang of privileged yet misfit young thieves who began burglarizing celebrity homes.

As I grace runways for Burberry and Lancôme, I found myself stepping into the enchanting role of Belle in the smashing 2017 live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast.” Fast forward to 2019, I donned the cap of Meg, the most conventional of the March sisters, in Greta Gerwig’s rendition of “Little Women.” Apart from my acting ventures, I’ve been a passionate advocate for gender equality since 2014. As a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, I spearheaded the HeForShe campaign and have continued to be a vocal proponent for equal opportunities in the film industry and beyond.

Previously, she dated Will Adamowicz, Matthew Janney, William “Mack” Knight, and Leo Robinson. However, at the moment, she’s contentedly in a relationship with Brandon Green. In May 2021, Watson refuted speculations about her retirement from acting on Twitter, stating, “Reports suggesting that my career is ‘inactive’ are strategies to generate attention whenever they are proven true or false.

It seemed like the girl with red hair from Essex was suddenly born to portray Harry’s closest friend, Ron Weasley. Grint, who received his first significant recognition after Potter, for being part of the Olympic Torch relay before the 2012 London Olympics – a memory he said would be treasured forever, has predominantly appeared in British productions. Notably, he played key roles in BBC One’s adaptation of the Agatha Christie mystery, “The ABC Murders,” and Sky One’s dark comedy “Sick Note,” where he portrayed an ordinary man whose life improved after receiving a false cancer diagnosis but continued to feign illness. (Lindsay Lohan was one of his co-stars.) His filmography includes “CBGB” about the renowned New York punk-rock club and the French comedy “Moonwalkers.” Currently, Grint stars in Apple TV+’s “Servant,” a supernatural mystery series by M. Night Shyamalan that recently returned for its second season, and he appeared in Shyamalan’s horror film “Knock at the Cabin.” (Paraphrased)

As soon as I landed the role of Ron, my life underwent a dramatic transformation,” Grint shared with Radio Times in 2018. “It was an unusual period, and it took me quite some time to fully comprehend. Even now, maintaining anonymity can sometimes be challenging. Occasionally, all I long for is a trip to B&Q.

He additionally expressed, “Following Potter, I wasn’t quite sure about my path. I felt as though I had missed out on ordinary experiences. Many of my school friends drifted away from me. I yearned for a more vibrant life once more, so I decided to take some time off. I’ve never been overly driven. There’s always been a part of me, especially after finishing Potter, that seeks validation, but I’m also inherently quite insecure.

Whatever he was doing during the audition clearly impressed Shyamalan, as he shared with EW.com that “Grint came in and transformed before my eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such a remarkable transformation from child to adult actor in my career; it’s truly astonishing.

Back in May 2020, Evan Grint and his long-term partner Georgia Groome became parents for the first time, giving birth to a beautiful girl named Wednesday G. Grint.

Undeniably, the former child actor known for portraying Neville Longbottom, Lewis, has become a topic of widespread interest due to his mature good looks, with the news of his grown-up charm spreading across the world.

Mostly, Lewis has been involved in theater and television work in England where he hails from, such as the BBC One miniseries “The Syndicate“, the heartbreaking film “Me Before You” from 2016, and the 2018 revenge thriller “Terminal” featuring Margot Robbie. In 2015, he expressed his delight in playing a soldier on the BBC Three dramedy “Bluestone 42“, which revolves around a bomb disposal squad stationed in Afghanistan.

Lewis shared with RadioTimes.com that Potter was a remarkable and exceptional journey he was fortunate to be a part of, but nothing compares to the level of involvement or pride he feels towards Bluestone 42. He’s had an absolute blast being involved in it, more than he ever has as an actor, undeniably.

In January 2020, on the Mantality podcast, he mentioned that he had been shooting All Creatures Great and Small for Channel 5 – a modern adaptation of the popular BBC series (1978-1990) from James Herriot’s books. Though some may not recognize it, Lewis pointed out that it was quite influential in Britain (and is now available on Masterpiece on PBS).

He’s a private fellow, but we do know that he married Angela Jones in 2018 and that they made at stop at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter World—the very place where they first met—in October 2019. They live in Florida, where Jones is from.

In actuality, the infamous Draco Malfoy (winner of two MTV Movie Awards for Best Villain) was a golden-hearted individual with platinum locks in real life. During the year 2011, he appeared in the film “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” but since then has been featured in films less reliant on CGI, particularly the period dramas “Belle” and “A United Kingdom.

He blew fanboys-and-girls’ minds showing up as Julian “Dr. Alchemy” Albert on the CW’s The Flash in 2016. Additionally, Felton starred on the YouTube Premium sci-fi drama Origin and the films OpheliaBraking for Whales and the World War II thriller Burial. Also a singer-songwriter, he has released several EPs over the years as well, and his Instagram, where he delightfully makes soup, plays guitar, hangs out with his dog and has the occasional Potter reunion, is one of the most joyful places on the Internet.

Felton had been in a relationship with Jade Olivia Gordon, who was later portrayed as Draco Malfoy’s wife Astoria in flash-forwards, for a period of seven years. This ended in 2016. In 2022, the actor published his memoir titled “Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard“, where he discussed his experiences with youthful fame, substance abuse problems, and clarified aspects of his relationship with Emma Watson.

He confessed, “I’ve harbored a hidden affection for Emma, maybe not as openly as others might expect. However, it doesn’t mean that there wasn’t any chemistry between us. In fact, there was, but it surfaced at various points in our relationship.

Although no romantic feelings blossomed from the initial connection, they continued to cherish a deep-rooted affection for each other, more akin to friendship. In Felton’s words, “I don’t believe I was ever deeply in love with Emma, but there was a unique bond between us—an affection and admiration that I couldn’t put into words for anyone else.

The redhead actress had barely turned 10 when she began portraying Ginny Weasley, transforming from “Ron’s younger sister” to Harry Potter’s romantic interest throughout the movies. In 2011, Wright was awarded the Most Daring Style Prize at the Rodial Beauty Awards and walked the runway for the first time during London Fashion Week for designer Katie Eary based in London.

In 2012, after graduating from London College of Communication, Wright established her independent production company BonBonLumière. Apart from appearing in films outside of the Harry Potter series like “After the Dark” and “Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg?”, this multitalented individual has also penned and directed her own short films. Some of these include “Separate We Come, Separate We Go”, starring David Thewlis (Remus Lupin), “Know Thyself” with Christian Coulson who portrayed Tom Riddle, and “Medusa’s Ankles” featuring Jason Isaacs, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy. In 2021, Wright published her debut book titled “Go Gently”, providing guidance to readers on participating in the climate movement.

In December 2019, Wright gathered with Watson, Felton, Lewis, and Evanna Lynch for a reunion which fortunately had its moment captured in a photo. “A flash of time,” Wright titled the picture, emphasizing the feeling with a symbol of lightning.

Previously, she was involved with Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who portrayed Sweeney Todd and a young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. However, they ended their relationship in 2012. Following this, she spent several years dating Simon Hammerstein. In 2020, Bonnie found love with Andrew Lococo and they got married in March 2022. Bonnie revealed in April 2023 that she is expecting their first child together.

It’s worth mentioning that although Ron Weasley’s twin brothers, Fred and George, are often associated with him, it is important to note that they were portrayed by actual twins in the Harry Potter films. The older one, Oliver, has a mole on the right side of his neck, and he is 13 minutes senior. They have continued to play twin roles in other movies, such as “Our Own Worst Enemy” and “Last Night in Soho,” both directed by Edgar Wright. Meanwhile, James Phelps, one of the twins, has pursued more acting opportunities independently.

A clear distinction can be made by noting that Oliver tied the knot with Katie Humpage in 2015, and they share two daughters together, whereas James married Annika Ostle a year later.

The siblings continue to be extremely tight-knit, jointly managing a podcast named “Not So Normal After All” and have had conversations with their former cast mates like Evanna Lynch, Katie Leung, and Alfred Enoch.

Originally a member of the Hogwarts student ensemble portraying fellow Gryffindor Dean Thomas, this British actor later made his mark on stages across England, as well as appearing in television shows such as Broadchurch and Sherlock. He then starred for four seasons on How to Get Away With Murder where he played the character Wes, a law student who was initially well-intentioned but eventually found himself in morally questionable situations that ultimately led to his demise. However, he made a comeback for a cameo as—SPOILER ALERT—Wes’ own son in the show’s shocking final season in 2020. More recently, he has been seen on Apple TV+’s Foundation and holds a degree from The Queen’s College, Oxford.

Chris Columbus was looking for a 15-to-17-year-old to play the specter of 16-year-old Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but the 23-year-old Coulson won the part anyway. He’s been working in film and TV ever since, most notably playing Damien George on Nashville, Sebastian in the Golden Globe-winning Amazon Prime series Mozart in the Jungle and Benjamin on High Fidelity, the Hulu reboot of the book-turned-movie starring Zoë Kravitz as the lovelorn, list-making record store owner, now set in Brooklyn.

Following a tough competition involving around 3,000 other contenders, the classically trained Scottish actress who portrayed Harry Potter’s love interest, Cho Chang during the Goblet of Fire era, found success in theater and television in the UK. Some of her notable works include the series White Dragon and Chimerica. She recently featured in the BBC One limited series The Nest. In movies, she played the daughter of Jackie Chan’s character (whose death from a terrorist bombing he seeks revenge for throughout the film) in the 2017 action-thriller The Foreigner. Currently, she stars in the Amazon Prime TV series The Peripheral, which was recently renewed for a second season. In December 2022, Leung announced on Instagram that she had given birth to her first child, a son named Wolf.

In March 2021, Leung, a woman with Chinese heritage, publicly shared her experiences of online hatred following the announcement of her casting.

On a whim, I found myself delving deep into a Harry Potter fan hub one day, only to stumble upon a torrent of hateful comments that left me utterly disheartened. This online platform was supposed to be a sanctuary for fans, but it had become a breeding ground for racism.

Wow, I wonder what became of the actor who portrayed the tragic romantic lead, Cedric Diggory, in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”…

Indeed, you’re correct: Pattinson secured the leading role in another highly popular YA series, the heart-fluttering _The Twilight Saga_, where he portrayed the enigmatic vampire Edward Cullen across five movies. During this time, he also dated his co-star, Kristen Stewart.

After that, his acting skills have shone particularly brightly in independent films such as “Maps to the Stars”, “Cosmopolis”, “The Rover”, “Good Time” and “The Lighthouse”. However, he switched gears and went back to major studio productions by assuming the famous cape and grim expression as the main character in the 2022 blockbuster “The Batman”, playing the DC superhero.

In the past, Robert Pattinson was betrothed to FKA twigs, but since 2018, he has been in a relationship with model and actress Suki Waterhouse.

In a more casual rephrasing, we can say that the tall and elegant Fleur Delacour hailing from Beauxbatons Academy in France was selected to represent her school in the Triwizard Tournament. Later on, she ended up marrying Bill, Ron’s cool older brother.

Since then, Poésy has consistently worked in film and television, with notable roles on “Gossip Girl,” the dark comedy “In Bruges,” the crime series “The Tunnel” both in English and French, and “Genius: Picasso” on the National Geographic Channel. The French actress also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” alongside her former “Triwizard Tournament” co-star, Robert Pattinson, and the Apple TV+ series “The Essex Serpent.” Upcoming, she will star in “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” a highly anticipated spinoff focusing on Norman Reedus’ beloved character from the zombie franchise.

Poésy has a son, Liam, who was born in 2017, and welcomed a second child in 2019.

She shared with The Guardian that her thoughts today have led her to feel more connected to women throughout history. The medical aspect of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood, which she experienced, has sparked deep contemplation in her. It has further intensified her respect for women.

The angelic-looking actress stole her scenes as the scatterbrained but heroic Luna Lovegood starting in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix—but she admitted that she struggled to get acting work after being part of the iconic franchise.

In 2019, Lynch shared with Bustle that it felt strange to receive so much fan mail and attention, yet found little of that reflection in real life. It was challenging for her because she yearned for the validation that comes from being part of a major film series where everything she did was appreciated and praised excessively.

Since 2015, Lynch has been a vegan and in 2018, she launched a clean and cruelty-free beauty line called Kinder Beauty Box. She also co-hosts a podcast titled Just Beings with Dr. Melanie Joy. In the year 2018, Lynch finished third on the show Dancing With the Stars, and her debut book, The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting, hit the shelves in 2021.

She shared with Bustle that she maintains a strong relationship with Katie Leung (Pansy Parkington) and Scarlett Byrne, and they were looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve together in 2020. She also frequently meets up with many of her old co-stars at conventions. Lynch stated that the cast members have grown closer since the films due to their increased maturity and adulthood. For instance, she recently spent time with James and Oliver Phelps (the twins) this past weekend, which she didn’t do much of during the filming because, when they were 14, the age gap seemed substantial. However, now that they are adults, it doesn’t seem as significant.

Draco’s associate Goyle has significantly improved his behavior since his time at Slytherin. Lately, he’s been seen in the British crime drama “Marcella” alongside Anna Friel, as well as the 2018 remake of “Robin Hood”, the crime miniseries “Murder at White House Farm”, and the spy drama “Alex Rider”. In 2016, he ventured into MMA fighting, but more recently, he’s had a minor role in Disney+’s “Andor”.

Herdman is also dad to a son, Morgan, with longtime partner Jessica Worth.

Similar to many Harry Potter antagonists, Dudley Dursley was actually quite amiable in reality. During the course of the franchise, Melling underwent a fitness routine that nearly resulted in his recasting before “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1”, but he managed to continue as Harry’s plump, spoiled cousin by wearing prosthetics. Although he looks quite different from those early days, Melling has maintained a steady acting career on both stage and screen since then, appearing in films like “The Lost City of Z” and “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” directed by the Coen brothers, as well as the HBO series “His Dark Materials”.

Lately, Melling collaborated once more with director Joel Coen to portray Malcolm in his adaptation of Macbeth, alongside Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as the lethally ambitious lead pair. Melling also made an appearance as Harry Beltik in the popular Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, and shared screen time with Charlize Theron in Netflix’s action movie The Old Guard. Last year, he received praise for his portrayal of a young Edgar Allan Poe in The Pale Blue Eye.
