Dermot Mulroney Said He and Ex Prima Were ‘Stealth Hollywood Couple’

Dermot Mulroney spoke candidly about his relatively secretive union with Prima Apollinaare, a year prior to their decision to file for divorce.

On June 23rd, Mulroney, aged 61, officially initiated divorce proceedings, as reported by court documents and later confirmed by Us Weekly. They had been married for 14 years and are parents to three children together.

Before their breakup, I, an ardent fan, had the privilege of witnessing Mulroney and Apollinaare’s collaboration on the captivating Fox game show, “We Are Family”. In this unique platform, performers with famous kin were showcased. During a thrilling episode in February 2024, Apollinaare graced the stage to sing The Shirelles’ timeless classic, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”. As contestants eagerly attempted to guess her celebrity connection, the tantalizing prospect of a cash prize fueled their determination.

At the conclusion of the episode, it emerged that Mulroney was her famous acquaintance. Later on, they sang a duet of “Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers together.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but reminisce about the thrill of receiving that life-changing phone call, inviting me to star in the show alongside my then-beloved spouse, who is now no longer by my side.

Mulroney shared with Entertainment Weekly in February 2024 that the show contacted us for an incredible phone call. They recognized Prima’s music and deduced our long-term relationship, despite being together for 20 years, making us a secret Hollywood couple. It turns out this show is a perfect fit for us. Moreover, it was an honor to be part of a game show that not only offers entertainment but also helps others, even though we had an absolute blast.

Apollinaire expressed her equal gratitude for performing alongside Mulroney because they both shared a passion for music.

She shared that she and her partner enjoy karaoke sessions together and have a deep love for music. For her, performing on television while singing was an incredible experience that she treasured. Moreover, she often engages in musical playtime with her spouse at home, as they possess a variety of instruments such as harps, guitars, ukuleles, pianos, and more.

She went on saying, “I’ve been singing from a young age, and music is deeply embedded in me.” She then shared, “It was an amazing encounter. They made it incredibly simple for us, and we enjoyed every moment of it.” She added, “I can’t help but wish we could do it all over again.

Additionally, Apollinaire commended Mulroney’s vocal skills on the program, labeling him as a “remarkable singer.” Earlier, he had demonstrated his singing prowess in the musical “Mack and Mabel.

Essentially, we’ve both been musicians throughout our lives, and while I’ve also acted and composed music in various capacities like playing the cello and conducting orchestras, Prima aptly summarized it – we come from a very musical family. However, my singing skills aren’t particularly renowned, so I appreciate you bringing that up. Performing in Mack and Mabel was one of the most significant challenges in my career. I recently wrapped up that production, but hopefully, we’ll have another chance to perform it again.

Regardless of their mutual passion for music and the joy they found in their union, their marriage ultimately failed. Mulroney pointed out “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of his divorce from Apollinaire. He petitioned the court for spousal maintenance and to end her entitlement to financial aid from him.
