Summary
- Destiny 2 builds can determine success in activities like Trials of Osiris and Grandmaster Nightfalls.
- Hunters need a new Void subclass melee attack to enhance gameplay options and effectiveness.
- Adding a new Void melee could provide more utility in different gameplay scenarios.
Despite significant advancements in Destiny 2, such as expanded build options and diverse gameplay possibilities, it can still be argued that the game clings to certain outdated concepts and elements that require refinement. For instance, Storm’s Keep empowers ranged Titan DPS with impressive consistency, without relying on complex and difficult-to-execute combos like Spirit of the Eternal Warrior combined with Spirit of the Star-Eater for enhanced Super and weapon damage. However, it’s worth noting that Storm’s Keep is a recent addition and represents one of the first instances of its kind. Similarly, Hunters encounter a comparable issue with one of their build configurations.
In Destiny 2, the way you build your character significantly influences whether you’ll triumph in activities or repeatedly fail or even give up, especially for tough challenges like Trials of Osiris and Grandmaster Nightfalls. So far, Hunters have enjoyed a winning streak thanks to great Exotics, innovative features, and redesigns. The array of Prismatic Aspects and abilities they’ve gained is incredibly potent, and Gifted Conviction, an Exotic, has been added as well. However, the cloaked Guardians could certainly benefit from some fresh ideas in their Void subclass.
Destiny 2’s Nightstalker Hunters Need a New Melee Attack Now More Than Ever
In Destiny 2, Void Hunter builds encounter an issue as they are limited to just one melee option – the Smoke Bomb. While the Smoke Bomb is strong and has some impressive interactions with certain items like the Exotic Omnioculus, enhancing its defensive capabilities (and occasionally offense), it’s evident that the Nightstalker class could benefit from an additional melee attack. This is especially true considering the introduction of the On The Prowl Aspect or other potential combinations, disregarding neutral gameplay advantages.
A Void-based melee move primarily for inflicting damage would significantly enhance the class and align well with its themes and design. The Nightstalker character can effectively embody a wild predator, and such a powerful striking tool beyond regular weapons and a utility Super would be a fantastic improvement. While the Void kit for Hunters in Destiny 2 is not inherently weak, there are certain aspects that aren’t frequently utilized or optimal. The Graviton Forfeit Exotic weapon remains strong in endgame activities, but its potential could be maximized with a damaging melee attack.
What a New Void Hunter Melee Could Do in Destiny 2
A notable gap in Void’s application across all character classes is a more uniform method to inflict the Suppress debuff. Introducing a Void melee ability for Hunters could effectively address this issue. Here are some potential strategies Bungie might employ to incorporate a new Void melee:
1. As a reward for completing specific quests or challenges, players could unlock a unique Void melee weapon.
2. A new Void melee could be introduced as part of a seasonal event or expansion content.
3. Bungie might decide to grant players access to the Void melee through in-game purchases using earned or purchased currency.
- A ranged attack where players throw something like a knife, shuriken, or even a Light-infused arrow that Weakens the target and deals good damage
- Better yet, there could be a melee attack that Suppresses targets and deals massive damage on a medium-to-high cooldown
As a devoted Destiny 2 gamer, I’ve been brainstorming some ideas for enhancing my favorite class, the Nightstalkers. Here’s what I came up with:
For GM Nightfalls, it could be intriguing to infuse thematic elements that emphasize strategic gameplay, making them more tactical and safer for players to navigate. This way, we can focus on the finesse of our strategies rather than being overwhelmed by the intensity of the challenge.
On the other hand, when it comes to PvP and Dungeons, introducing adrenaline-pumping, action-packed elements could elevate the excitement and unpredictability. These modes are all about skillful confrontations and unexpected twists, so pumping up the action would only make them more thrilling!
In a potential update, a new Void melee technique might permit players to utilize certain Fragments and Exotics more frequently. For instance, Echo of Leeching could help balance out any Devour shortage, while On The Prowl may gain fresh vitality as a result.
It remains unclear whether Bungie intends to create a fresh Void melee attack for Destiny 2, but it’s an idea worth exploring, especially considering the upcoming Destiny 2: Frontiers, scheduled after Episode Heresy. Although they might not introduce this potential new ability immediately following Frontiers, there’s still a possibility that it could be added later on, significantly enhancing Void Hunter builds in the game.
