Destiny 2: The Final Shape Sold Less Than Lightfall at Launch – Rumour

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been a rollercoaster of emotions for many of us in the gaming community. Having played every expansion since the original Destiny, I must admit that this one truly lived up to its hype, delivering an immersive and engaging experience that left me wanting more.

The highly anticipated expansion, “Destiny 2: The Final Shape,” faced considerable anticipation this year. Upon its release, it indeed met expectations, garnering widespread critical praise and attracting a significant number of players. Nevertheless, initial sales figures suggest that Bungie might not have achieved the sales targets they had hoped for.

According to a report from journalist Stephen Totilo’s Game File newsletter, an anonymous former employee at Bungie has claimed that, despite receiving high critical praise, The Final Shape did not sell as well at launch compared to last year’s less favorably received game, Lightfall. However, it is said that even if Lightfall had been a much more successful commercial release, it wouldn’t have prevented Bungie’s recent job cuts, which resulted in over 200 positions being eliminated from the studio.

In our assessment of “Destiny 2: The Final Shape”, we bestowed a rating of 9 out of 10. We stated, “When content from Destiny is subpar, it can be some of the most disappointing around. But when it’s at its best, there’s simply nothing else quite like it. The Final Shape delivers on all its commitments and more, offering a profound emotional release for long-term enthusiasts while setting the stage for what lies ahead in the future.” To read the complete review, click here.

By the end of November, indications pointed towards the pre-sales for the expansion being lower than anticipated. Time will tell if its positive reviews and buzz generate stronger, sustained sales in the long term.
