Dev Patel’s Epic Medieval Revenge Thriller: A Knight’s Tale with a Twist!

Dev Patel has chosen his upcoming directorial venture, titled “The Peasant“. Notably, Patel is widely recognized as an actor, having gained prominence in the starring role of “Slumdog Millionaire” which, despite not earning him an Oscar nomination, was highly acclaimed by the Academy, winning Best Picture. Later, he received a nod for Best Supporting Actor for portraying Saroo Brierley’s adult character in the biographical drama “Lion“. His notable roles also include performances in “The Green Knight” and “Chappie“.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mahendra Patel is slated to both act in and direct the movie titled “The Peasant.” Apart from these two roles, he will also pen the film’s script. This production will be a joint effort between Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures. “The Peasant” is categorized as a revenge thriller, and it takes place in medieval India during the 1300s. The narrative revolves around a shepherd who stands up against marauding knights who have devastated his village.

What This Means For Dev Patel

Thunder Road Produced John Wick

Despite primarily focusing on acting throughout his career, Patel took a significant career stride last year by directing his first feature film, titled “Monkey Man.” Similar to his previous work in “The Peasant,” he both starred in and co-wrote this movie. Therefore, working on “The Peasant” will mark the second feature for Patel, providing him an excellent opportunity to strengthen his directorial skills further.

In the upcoming movie, he will join forces again with Thunder Road Pictures, who were previously involved in the production of “Monkey Man” – a film that shares similarities with “The Peasant”. Notably, the same studio is also responsible for the “John Wick” series. Given that “The Peasant” has been compared to both “John Wick” and “Braveheart”, it appears Thunder Road Pictures could bring valuable expertise to this project. Interestingly, “Monkey Man” itself had elements reminiscent of “John Wick”, being a solo action film. Therefore, “The Peasant” will likely reinforce this subgenre as a significant aspect of Patel’s work and strengthen his collaboration with Thunder Road Pictures.
