The animated Netflix series based on Capcom’s famous video game franchise, Devil May Cry, is now available, with Dante battling numerous demons across its eight episodes. Though a second season hasn’t been confirmed, the season finale left several plot threads unresolved, hinting at the possibility of more adventures. Our team at egmr.ru recently had an exclusive conversation with series creator Adi Shankar and Scout Taylor-Compton, who voices “Lady.” In our discussion, they teased that the main antagonist from the first season might not be as you’d expect.
Initially, Taylor-Compton delved into the significance of her character in the animated series, focusing on the contemplative aspect of Devil May Cry. She described Lady as the emotional core, not in a conventional, tender sense. Instead, she is the human foundation of this universe, lacking supernatural abilities. What sets her apart, according to Taylor-Compton, is her past – it’s what shaped her character, and that’s what she finds fascinating about the series. She explained that Lady is strong and fearsome, but what turned her into an armored powerhouse? We all have a history, we all experience trauma, and these experiences help us develop our protective selves. Taylor-Compton expresses her excitement about exploring this aspect of Lady’s character more deeply. She notes that as a society, we often avoid discussing such topics, but finds it beautiful that even in this action-packed world, there are damaged characters with deep emotions, just trying to get through each day. She believes that these vulnerable characters can find strength and resilience within themselves, which resonates with us all.
Trauma is The Final Boss
In a recent confirmation, Adi Shankar revealed that the main antagonist of the first season in the animated adaptation is none other than Trauma, as he put it, “Trauma truly is the final boss.” To support this claim, actress Scout, who voices Lady, shared her unique connection to the character. She explained, “Absolutely! As I began working on this show, I found that what Lady was experiencing in the series, uncovering her past, mirrored my own journey. It felt like I was leaning on Lady, and at the same time, she was leaning on me. (To Adi) I believe I never conveyed this to you before, but Lady was a significant support for me during that time. I think the struggles I faced in my life helped shape her character as well.
In this story, trauma may be portrayed as the main antagonist, yet the White Rabbit stands out as the most tangible adversary in a physical sense. This character, with a compelling history that sets him on a destructive path against both Dante and Lady, aims to demolish the barrier separating Earth and hell. The series is brimming with terrifying demons, but the White Rabbit stands apart from the other malevolent forces threatening our world. One of the most captivating episodes in the animated series unfolds when we delve into his origins.
